QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) THANK YOU BELTRE these are the games where MN being on the road counts, home games like this they seem to never lose, not just a loss, but a loss with Liriano pitching which is like two losses as far as we're concerned......

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) If you said "Jim Thome is not clutch late in games" I'd actually agree with you. When you say "Jim Thome is not a clutch hitter" I greatly disagree. He really is pretty bad late in games, that I can not defend but he tends to come through big in the first 6 innnings. There's just something about Jim Thome (probably all the K's late in games) where people tend to forget all the times he comes up big in close games while a guy like Joe Crede who's "clutch" stats aren't all that impressive is considered one of the best clutch hitters in the game. (it seems like every time Joe Crede comes through with a big hit it's memorable, which leads me to believe that he's more "memorable" clutch than he is "consistently" clutch but that's a theory for another time) So really it's all about the wording. and there you have it... -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Interesting. I'd think Twins fans would shut up and thank their lucky stars every day they are where they are cause of a scrappy team and great manager. How the hell they are doing this year in and out is beyond me. Their payroll is low. They should be happy every single day. That said, I'm damn glad the Angels beat them the last 2 days. Finally. And it took some scrapping by Anaheim to win yesterday. I truly believe once they leave that dome, they become just another low budget team trying to compete. W/o the ability to tailor their offense to a unique park, they'll be forced to play the same game as other teams and slap hits will not be able to help their young pitchers rack up huge home numbers. I would almost guarantee we're seeing the last of the twins threat this season. Put them in a place like the cell and their offense becomes half as effective......in a year like this one, I'd count them for 6-7 fewer wins than they have right now.....imagine us having a 7 game lead right now??? -

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) With 5 very young pitchers, it is hard not to believe that 1 or 2 of them will start to drop off performance-wise this late in the season. It is just the nature of the game. It happened to Danks last year, and the Sox were not even in the race. they always have young pitchers, and usually make the playoffs anyway. This is the foundation of their club, young talent (= less injury) that relies upon a huge winning % at home (through a hitting style tailored to the dome) to counter road losses, then exits first round of the playoffs when their young team has to play on the road under the kind of pressure they've never seen, and in the process taking away the chance for a team like the Sox with guys who've been their before to use that as an advantage to win in a place like Boston or Anaheim.....sucks but true, see 2003, 2004, 2006 -
8/25 Gm. 1 - SOX vs./@ BAL, 5:05 CT, CSN

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) A fitting end to this one. Maybe Ozzie will realize you can't give away an out with a bad bunter down one in your potential last at bat. We deserved that loss between that managerial gaffe and the way we played this game back in April. Oh well, gotta win tonight now. no offense WSF, I agree with you, but all the "oh wells" on this board will eventually add up to a MN +4.5 games by Sept30th when this regular season ends in another disappointment, we all need look no further than the various bone headed mgr decisions, terrible baserunning, terrible execution that determines whether we're watching the a Cubs only post season vs. a Cubs & Sox post season if I'm a MN fan, or player, I'm sitting there licking my chops everytime we do something as collossally stupid as having our 300 hitting catcher bunt with one out -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Huge DP. Too bad one batter too late. We can score a run to tie it, i just fear we'll see 3 pop ups due to 3 HR swings and that's why the front page of ESPN MLB right now has the Cubs, Angels, and Rays with a question mark asking who it will be? there's too much koolaid here to realize that our inability to close out easy opportunities like this (4 innings to score one freaking run against terrible pitching) is why most experts are not talking WhiteSox baseball. -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) Angels have no life whatsoever. First time in 11 games Saunders has allowed more than 3 runs. This is just flat out ridiculous. Let's crown the Twins champs of the Central once again. everyone who was drooling over the Twins dreaded road trip, including the TV talking heads, clearly don't what seems like logic doesn't work for the White Sox. 1)Twins get a dead Angels team, cruising to a div title without contest, playing flat and scoring 1 run against Slowey, and none other that Hunter giving up the error that leads too the loss, define irony? 2) the rest of that trip is against deadbeat teams who the Twins are going to massacre, road or not 3) the sox have a red hot TB team and BOS on the road during that stretch 4) Twins history of nonames playing like allstars, who the f*ck are slowey, perkins, seriously, do their players have no big league learning curve over an entire season???? so what appears to be a golden opportunity for our sox will be the exact exact opposite, I predict we're 4 out by the time this stretch ends Thanks you Anaheim for tanking at the exact moment we need you, so you can coast into the playoffs while helping the twins in so they can exit in round one as usual -

this team is the undisputed king of expect the unexpected: Angels at home with their best pitcher on the hill, looking like a AA rookie, the Twins who usually can't buy a win on the road lighting him up, and of course catching the Angels at a time while they're cold Sox coming off a red hot series, stay at home, with their best guy on the hill, against a very good team that lives, however off homecooking, and we looked plain aweful -

unbelievable the way this team's playing that they aren't gaining ground on MN, need to hope we can keep up this level of play while they're on that road trip or I guess even better we can stop worrying about MN and hope TB or Boston slips to open the WC to the central -
didn't see the game, just the final few innings on the net, just noticed they outhit us by 4.....phew

for those of us watching games by gamecast and other net media, it's scary how seemingly every scoring summary has either CQ or ARam's name in it..... -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) Not just saying this because I'm pissed off right now, but I haven't been 100% completely sold on this team at any point this year. We still might win the division (we're extremely fortunate the Tigers and Indians dropped off the face of the planet). But I don't think this team is really THAT good. We look good at times when were we go HR derby on everybody. But this isn't a high level I.Q. team. the pisser is if BA doesn't get thrown out on this nice grab at home, we get Jenks in the 9th, even with Dotels f-ups, and likely end up with the W

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) You do realize this division could come down to one game right? And that if we lose two out of three this weekend, it's because of that game. And that Minnesota is now tied with us instead of one game back because we just gift wrapped a win for Oakland and begged them to take it. But sure, if we win tomorrow, and are forced to play a rubber match Sunday instead of look for a sweep, this game doesn't matter. Ok. and that's what everyone who brushes off a gift wrapped collapse like this is failing to realize, we've been +/-1 game with MN for as long as I can remember now, and every single loss IS in fact a HUGE issue. MN is could easily go 6-0 on their trampodomestand, and it is not at all improbable that we finsh 5 days from now down down 3-4 games, just...like...that. Dotel absolutely sucked beyond recognition tonight, grooving that 0-2 down the middle was about as pathetic as it comes, the offense (PK in particular) could have blown it wide open early and let yet another no name, who we should have annihilated, off the hook. There's just no way we can afford to have a Floyd against Nobody game be an L at this stage, we all know the last week of the season will be a massive nailbiter, mark this game down in your books fellas

0-2, here see if you can hit this one down the middle waist high, you know just for kicks, not like I'd want to see if you'll fish for something since I got 4 F***in pitches to waste!!!!! -
this time of year reminded me of '06 when the Sox were tied with MN on Aug31 and most on this board figured our all-world roster could beat them over 30 days to get the wild card nod...of course we know how that turned out, so at this point, given all we know about these two teams, roster, injuries, schedule, home and away games, what's your gut tellin you????

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Dear god Konerko is awful. I guess if it's not a batting practice fastball at the letters he's not going to drive it. seriously, he'd have a better chance getting on base and driving in RBIs by laying down bunts and praying, then taking full swings at this point -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Cause I didn't expect this from them. I mean they even won the series from the Yankees. They beat us 3 of 4 when it mattered. Now they have 6 at home against lousy teams. I would have expected this from Det. and Cleve this year but not Minnie. I even expected KC to pass Minnie. we should all expect exactly this from MN, they just find a way to get it done, in most years, with guys you never heard of, not blowing people out, but winning solidly by a couple runs each game and defending home court, they find a way in particular to stick it to the Sox time and time again, I cannot recall how many late Septembers they broke my heart in the final week, 05 the exception......eg. Slowey, who is that guy, got a 500 record but is suddenly unhittable? this year would be what 5 ALC titles in 7 yrs, on minimum budget?......basically to win this division from them to you have to have a rocking year, but don't expect to take it with anything less than 90 wins......which they've had 5 of the last 7 seasons, assuming they'll have that this year I probably take the bait too often replying to thread regarding the twins, but their ability to do just enough to get in the playoffs, then summarily choke in the first round, drives me absolutely insane
