QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) What's the definition of Holmgrening? Enveloping your entire organization in his fatness....thinking his success as the Packers head coach 15 years ago somehow still qualifies him to run your entire franchise from top to bottom... -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Coco Crisp is signing with Oakland, for a $6m salary in 2012, a $7m salary in '13, a club option of $7.5m for '14, with a $1 m. buyout. I'm shaking my head a bit at this one...

Halfway through my 3rd week of P90X2. Super happy with everything thus far, and seeing tons of results. Going to stick with Phase 1 for probably five weeks and then switch over to Phase 2.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 05:11 PM) The press conference? I listened. Mostly your typical BS you would expect. Good to hear that money wasn't a factor in firing Angelo and won't affect the future hire. I was nnoyed that they wouldn't delve into what Angelo did wrong "out of respect" for him. All they kept saying was that they need to close the talent gap between them & the rest of the division, which is obviously true. I would have liked to hear their exact criticism of Angelo, also how much the Cutler injury played a part in his firing. I am a fan of Lovie as a coach, but holding onto him worries me a little, because some GMs may not want to take the job if they can't bring in their own coach. I don't think of this as a problem. Lovie has shown a willingness to have his offense run in a multitude of different ways...the only way I see this being a problem is if they want to hire a defense-oriented GM who dislikes the Tampa-2 style of defense that the Bears play (although I am not really even sure how much of that we play anymore). I'd like to see an offensive-minded GM brought in that isn't going to Holmgren us. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) Interesting... I am trying to find on their site what equipment I need for this. One thing seems obvious - I need a TV and DVD player. Fortunately, I can put up a cheap one in this space pretty easily. But I appreciate the advice - doing a 90 day program like this as a jumpstart seems ideal, as that takes me to April or so, and I can start mixing in outdoor activities at that point. Yeah, this is a bit easier than P90X so it should spare your injuries a bit...but should get you into pretty decent shape for your spring and summer activities.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) OK, since a lot of you guys seem to have a lot of knowledge here, I'm going to throw my situation at you and see what advice you can give me... I need a winter workout routine. During the summer I'm on the bike a lot, play sports, etc. But it is winter in Chicago, and I refuse to go out and run in this (but will do so in the spring). What I have available to me is a workout area I carved out in my basement, with the following: --Weight bench (ranges flat to incline, but no decline) --Leg attachment (only does quad and ham curls really) --2 barbells and one straight bar, both with plenty of plates for anything I am likely to do --Got my mountain bike up on a resistance flywheel thing, so it is now an indoor trainer --Push-up bars --Yoga mats and blocks, and an open space on the floor for non-machine exercises My main goals are fat burn and toning up muscles - don't really need muscle bulk, that's one thing that is not an issue for me. I can dedicate one workout a day, 6 days a week, probably about 30-45 minutes each. I'm 39 years old, used to work out a lot, years ago. But I fear my knowledge from then was maybe not the best anyway, and I don't have a gym to go to currently either. I'm tall, but also now about 40 pounds over where I'd like my weight to be. Also have some persistent knee and ankle issues, so I need to use caution on high impact leg stuff. Diet-wise, I have control over breakfast and lunch, but dinner is family time so I have to go with whatever we are making that night. I take a multi-vitamin daily, but no other supplements currently. So... if you actually read my entire post... what would you recommend, SoxTalkers? Tony Horton's Power 90 routine.... Power 90

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) I see what you are saying but haven't the Packers scored on their first positions the last 5 times the teams played? Also the Packers beat the Bears four times in calendar year 2011. Again though, I see your point and agree with it. The Packers have probably done this to almost every team they've played in the last calendar year. -

Lovie may be an idiot when it comes to some in-game decisions, but he always has us prepared. I don't know what he does to prepare the Bears, but rarely do they come out just unready or unwilling to play like most teams do at least 3-4 times a year. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Lovie ran Ron out of town not sure Norv will want to work for the Bears. When you just got fired as a HC, it's not time to start worrying about what another team did to your brother when he couldn't get the job done. The Bears have a very good QB, an older, but solid defense, a great fanbase, and are the charter franchise in the League...as long as they are willing to pay the market rate, they should have no trouble attracting the best available coaches. -

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Yeah. Frankly I don't think Lovie is a problem so I don't care. Actually it wouldn't surprise me that the bears target the Polians who probably like Lovie. That is an interesting thought. I wonder if this was done because the Polians were fired in Indy? -

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Doubtful. No GM is coming without bringing his own people. Angelo did... I find it hard to fire Lovie over this mess...he did what he was supposed to do...he had them headed for the playoffs with the roster that was given to him. I don't know what exactly Lovie thought of Caleb, but my guess is ultimately was Angelo's call. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) Danks Floyd Peavy Sale Humber Pick your order...unless you think Floyd is getting traded. As much as I like Humber, I'm not going to feel super comfortable about him in that 5th slot until I see him come out and put up 3-4 starts of the quality he put up early in the year last year...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) I've thought about it, but honestly do not have the time to really do anything of sort cause of this job (which I was jobless most of 2010, so I had time to run, do Insanity, eat right etc.. to get in shape) especially working night shift, 10-12 hours a day. Gonna try getting up around 2 pm today and get started before I go in to work. (as you can see... still up.. Insomnia sucks) Gotta get back to the better eating habits too, especially at my job when our breaks are so late and everyone eats past 10 pm. Morning shift would be so much easier for me, but hey I can't complain. Don't give me that, Ger...I've worked 12 hour shifts and done P90X for months...it's not the easiest thing in the world, but it can be done...and once you get back into shape, you can do it 3 times a week and you'll still stay good...

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) How is a team that goes 15-1, outscores their opponents by over 200 points over the course of the season and just beating another playoff team with mostly their reserves on the decline? I understand that since this is a Sox board there are a lot of Bears fans. However, I'd like to hear some reasoning for this "decline" other than just stating it as fact without any actual explanation. The regression on the Packers D can be attributed to a few factors in my mind. First, they lost one of the best safeties in the league in Nick Collins which I believe someone else mentioned earlier. Also, they lost Cullen Jenkins at DE who had a very nice end of the year last year. Without Jenkins getting pressure from the D-line it gives teams a lot more freedom to double guys like Matthews and Raji. Raji has not regressed much in my mind. The issue is that he is getting doubled up a lot and is being forced to play more of a run stuffing role than a pass rushing role. Despite the fact that they are giving up a lot of yardage they still lead the league in interceptions. Also, you do realize that the Saints will have to play outside if they face the Packers in the NFC Championship, right? The same Saints who are 5-3 on the road and 3-2 in outdoor games. The same Saints who haven't scored 40 points outside in one game this year (including the season opener in much nicer weather conditions than it will be in January). The Packers are 8-0 at home and 12-1 outdoors this season. As I said before, they lead the league in interceptions. Brees has already thrown 14 picks this season. He is also much more mortal outdoors vs indoors. Just something to think about before crowning the Saints. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that they are still not the best team in the League at this point. I'm just pointing out that they seemed to have peaked around Turkey Day and now I believe they are struggling a bit, whereas they weren't really missing a beat all year until now. I still consider them the favorites to win the SB, but I do see them as being beatable now whereas I didn't about 6 weeks ago. -
I don't even know who our 5th starter is going to be for 2012...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) Alright I'm gotta get back in the game with this. Started lifting a few weeks ago, but injured my wrist and stopped for a couple weeks. (still sore, but gonna battle through it) Gonna start Insanity once again since I gained 40+ pounds since! (back to 195 lbs, was 150 in 2010 in October just when I started new job... yea) Have you considered doing something that is easier to maintain over the long run than Insanity? The reason I have not thought much about doing Insanity myself is because it seems so difficult that you would never want to/be able to maintain it over any decent length of time. Maybe if you did something you were more probable to stick with you'd stay closer to your goal weight?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) What I would say is that I don't think they can find a QB at that slot which will take them another full level upwards...but they definitely need additional depth at the QB slot. With their situation, they could probably gamble on one of the guys in the 2nd or 3rd round to add depth at the spot, put him on the bench and work him for a few games, where if Tebow repeats his last 4 games in the first 4 of next season, maybe you pull the plug once he's 0-4. Yeah, either that or just let Brady Quinn play. I still don't think he's ever been given the shot he deserves. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) If you were in John Elway's seat and you had a pick around #21, an 8-8 team, and the option to do whatever you wanted without the fans killing you, would you draft a late first round QB, would you sign a FA, or would you go with Tebow? I'd draft the best available player on the board. They need help in a lot of places still. Now that Barkley isn't coming out this year, and Luck and Griffin will be long gone, I don't know that there is a QB you really want to put your fate in. The Tebow situation is really delicate. The fans love him, his teammates love him. He's so freaking smooth with the media...its going to be difficult to unseat him unless you do it with someone that just completely eliminates all debate, with the media, with the players, with the fans, etc. IMO, Elway has a really difficult task ahead of him. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) Black Monday indeed. So far, Bill and Chris Polian out in Indy, Spagnuolo, Devaney out in St Louis, Morris fired by Tampa. Have to think there are going to be some jobs lost in Philly as well. Possibly Chargers. Surprised by the Polians being fired...that shakes things up quite a bit...
