Another guy who knows all the answers.

If the Players Association is so worried about collusion, why would a player and his agent play along to suppress what may be the largest contract in the game's history/

It is the dumbest scenerio of all time.

I don’t think it would unfold that way either. Not my scenario.

If Manny agreed to a White Sox contract, how would the Phillies not know he isn't negotiating with him any more? And if it's cool to fake negotiate in an effort to keep another player's contract down, great. This is even dumber than added security for a press conference. The fakes have officially run out of ideas.

Machado hasn’t been negotiating with Philly for several weeks

Now here's my real tricky question.

The next time you say you heard something from a source, will you also add the caveat "This source was wrong about the last thing they told me".

I would like to amend my last response with the caveat that the last particular information I heard from several people does not seem to be accurate as of now.

Without having to go into any detail or reasoning to support your stance, what percent chance do you think the Sox have of signing Manny at this point in time?

I said 80% earlier in this thread.

I don’t think there is any sense in putting a number on it, but it is my belief that the comments Hahn made at Soxfest over the weekend do not really represent just how determined they are to land him. Harper being out there does complicate that a bit, but I think (and all their moves make this very clear) they are absolutely committed to landing him unless the price starts to converge with the bottom range of how they value Harper.

Would Boras really pre-emptively sign for a lower number (with Philly) than the previously targeted $350-400 million over ten years and allow Lozano/Machado to beat it days later?

The only reason that makes sense is if he pretty much KNOWS the White Sox/Padres/Cardinals/Yankees/Angels aren’t planning to come anywhere close to breaking $300 million on Machado no matter how long or patiently he waits it out.

    Nope.

  6. I am not an insider I’m just a Sox news fiend that talks to a lot of people. And I’ve been on this forum for like 13 years and like to read and participate like anyone else.

So now I am faced with the conundrum of wanting to participate honestly, given things I know to be true or not at all and watch you guys all trip over stuff that is nonsense.

Thats really the only reason I sort of vaguely refer to things I’ve heard.

Not because I want to brag.

So you know you have the same source as WSD and you know that your source told WSD and yourself meaning that you know you have the same news, you know?

Just to clear this up...Dave has sources all over the place...I am not privy to anywhere near the stuff he hears.

No wonder we have so many new insiders. They all get information they cannot share, and then if the team makes a move, that’s what they knew all along. So far, except for chili’s Herrera note, all the insiders on this board are 0 fer this winter.

Go look back at the thread and see who named Herrera first...

But it's not legit, it's his source speculating on things.  Unless his sorce his Jerry, Hahn, or KW his source is as good as the janitor that cleans Hahn's office

If you knew the info Dave knows today, and hasn’t made a peep about, you’d likely sing a different tune.

Last night, raBBit said this...”paleose1 is legitimate and an impressive guy.”

People directly asked him what he meant, and he didn’t answer. It seems like he was purposely being cryptic and having fun with the fact that he had inside information. And to me, that’s completely fine. I don’t lose any sleep over it, but I think that’s what people are referring to.

    All fair feedback.

That is not what I am trying to articulate. I am just trying to find the harm in Dave replying to someone that the eyeballs are Sox related. Or a better example is @rabbit posting that palehose1 is legit, a guy on mlbtr with exact details of a joke trade. Some people thought he was joking, others took it literal. I asked him strait forward if it was a joke or not and then silence, why not clarify? Again, no one owes me or anyone anything but that little vague comment sent this board into a frenzy.

Dave did reply. He jokingly said “No, it’s about the Miami Heat.” Read what you will into that.

Rabbit may or may not have known the exact package that was rumored. A lot of times someone hears a piece of information and then tries to build off of that from other sources. Again, it’s a puzzle they’re trying to put together and they only have some of the pieces.

Unfortunately, they don’t receive a text when the deal is complete with all the terms like Rosenthal, Passan and Heyman do.

Now we are all fighting about who has sources and who is attention seeking. No matter what, I think vagueness and no follow up is irresponsible. I get no one owes us any information but when you have posts or tweets that can be taken as literal or sarcastic, who does that help? When you have eyeballs and don't even specify if it's Sox related in the midst of a bunch of rumors, even though you have used eyeballs in the past for non sox related info, who does that help? We believed insiders over people like Rosenthal who said a Joc trade wasn't close and now board morale is low. I'd gladly eat my words if this goes down tonight or this weekend.

Would you prefer they didn’t share anything?

If a person who wanted attention got some leaks and then decided to make up 1/2 of them...we'd believe all of them because of the few they got right.

I don’t think they give a shit whether you believe them or not. Believe whatever it is you choose to believe. No one cares.

Calling them liars or frauds or attention-seekers is not accurate, however.

The sheer volume of stuff people tell both of them, particularly Dave, is incredible. He could create far more attention for himself than he does if he chose to.

There are a lot of people who thrive off of the attention of having a source. Most are trash looking for any attention they can get. We have even sunk to self professed burner accounts.

What it all boils down to is that this has not been a conventional set of negotiations probably due to the complete collapse of spending,  especially from the traditional spending powers.

At the end of the day, I am not even sure Sox management knows exactly what the end game is here, which is going to put a smash on information that could be legit, as we see plenty of people who traditionally had info being wrong over and over again.

People have to understand that there are probably 3-5 people that know ALL the details about a transaction. I know everyone is tired of hearing the old “things are fluid” statements. What usually leaks out early and gets shared by and with people like Dave and Rabbit and others are high-level, general pieces of information wherein decisions still remain that ultimately impact official announcements and so forth.

I know people are impatient, and I know people think these guys are embellishing or just flat-out wrong about things, but they really are not necessarily wrong about what they know, they just don’t have all the pieces of the puzzle. And that is why they are vague to begin with. Then people press them. Then they may try to add additional detail and that ends up being judged.

I can say with full confidence that the information these guys get is solid. Take from it what you wish, but they aren’t just out there making things up out of thin air.

And remember that when the announcements get made.
