QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) So you don't think his applauding of this deal for the Dodgers is ridiculous? I think it was a reach for them to even make the deal...that being said, I have not been super impressed with McDonald. Either way, I could care less if you want to call his opinion silly...but it irks me when random message board guy thinks longtime ESPN baseball reporter and former beat writer doesn't bring anything to the discussion. I think Cowley is pretty lame for instance...but even he can bring things to the table because of his access to the team...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) Do we have a single opposite field single all game? The guy is only throwing 56 mph. I'm not sure it's possible to go opposite field on this guy... -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Saying that the Dotel deal is a good and fair trade can definitely be classified as clueless. And yes, I'm well aware, but Olney is one of those guys who flat out rejects sabermetrics. So of course, I wouldn't see eye to eye with him. So you disagree with him. That doesn't make him clueless.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Buster Olney is clueless. He's one of those "traditionalists". Do you really believe that? I know it's fashionable and all to rip on everyone who actually works in the industry, but I wouldn't characterize the guy as "clueless." You do know there are other parts of the game other than advanced metrics, right?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) Thing is, Jones is getting a ton of at bats vs righties. Basically 150 out of his 210 ABs have been against RHP this season. As we've talked about, it seems the sox misjudged Kotsay's ability to play the outfield. Yes, he has gotten quite a bit of ABs verses righties...so I guess he has a point...but tonight he's facing a lefty....which he has hit well against.... -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) I agree one bat wouldn't change the outcome of this game, but his point about not wanting to have to see Jones get so many at bats is the real issue. Jones is actually pretty good against lefties. The problem is more what Kotsay does against righties. If you're going to cry, at least cry about the right things. -

We've won 5 games in a row. Settle down... One bat is not going to change a game like this...it happens. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) I'm sorry, but if I recall correctly, I never asked you to do anything for me, and if you are going to hold something that you did on your own ambition over me, give me a freaking break. But thank you for arguing on my side. And if you are going to demean me and expect me to sit back and take it because we have different view points, well that doesn't fly with me, and I certainly won't let people try and treat me like the village idiot. better than the village bicycle!

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Jeez, just a dreadful start so far by Danks. Every pitch is hanging right over the heart of the plate. A's about to blow this wide open. As of 6:30PM today, today has really sucked. Fathom, buddy...as a guy with a kid on the way...deep breaths...deep breaths man... -

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) It's diminutive, meant to exert his control over the booth and his partner. It's the same behavior that led him to mock Wimpy out of town. Besides that, they're grown men calling a major league baseball broadcast. I guess it's not enough for Hawk to sound like a loop. I thought it was just his nickname... -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) Almighty southsider2k5 knows everything! This is the first I've heard of Konerko being a goner. Yep, lets replace what has been a cornerstone on offense for the past decade with a cheap rookie/sophomore who, as much as I like, is far from a sure thing, even when said rookie/sophomore could fill the hole at 3B or DH instead. So, almighty southsider, who fills the 3B spot with Konerko gone? Morel? And what about DH? Move Quentin there? Then what about RF? Jones? Sounds like an even better offense than this years! And as for Danks, he hasn't shown any interest in a long term contract? Who the hell would be dumb enough to sign a contract extension now when they can make a lot more closer to their free agency years. And for someone who gave me so much s*** about assuming KW never really went after Berkman, how are you going to assume Danks has never shown any interest in staying here? Thats even a greater assumption as I have never seen or heard anything to indicate Danks wants to test free agency or leave the White Sox. And as for me not finding a god damn practical joke hilarious, I'm sorry. I'm a little bit more concerned with the future of this team. Sounds like someone could use a tension breaker...
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Thats very comforting to hear... when we need a major upgrade at DH and with the trade deadline winding down, our GM is working on practical jokes. Kenny's been working for the past two weeks straight basically. It's called a tension breaker. Maybe once you get a real job you will realize what it's like to work in a high-stress environment.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) When does Teahen come back again? If Kotsay is DFA'd when that happens and Viciedo is on the team, at least I'd have reason to think our team has some semblance of logic about it's everyday players. Unfortunately, from how I understand it, it will come down to a decision between Viciedo and Lilli being sent down...ridiculous, I agree....but unfortunately that will be the choice...
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) How would you defend all of the at bats Mark Kotsay gets that Dayan Viciedo should be getting? That's a current issue that is being handled poorly. Now that is an Ozzie issue. I can't and don't try and defend Ozzie, other than to say that we often forget that the guy is managing human beings and not just stat sheets. That being the case, I would not be giving Kotsay the ABs he is being given, and once Teahan comes back, he would be given all of Kotsay's ABs minus the random few innings that Pauly gets off.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Does it really matter? You and SS2K5 talk about how impossible we are to deal with. You guys are just as impossible. At least ranger gets paid to be a KW apologist. You guys do it for free. I'm not apologizing for Kenny. I don't think you'll ever find me saying that not signing Thome was a good idea. But I'm also not going to act like a spoiled 5 year old and cry about something that we have absolutely no hope of ever changing. You guys are crucifying our FO for not making a move that no other GM in baseball made either. You have been insisting for the past week that IF we had other the tools available to us that all these other organizations with good farm systems have, we would be able to make a move like this no problem. And yet, none of those GMs made this move either. I'm not trying to be a KW apologist, I am trying to be reasonable and use common sense.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) What don't you get? A deeper system and maybe they would've wanted something besides Dayan? Or maybe you could afford to deal Dayan? Dayan is more valuable to us than he would be to other teams because he's just about all we have left. And I'm with guys like fathom. I'm thinking Tyler Flowers isn't quite the prospect we think he is. And more importantly I think the White Sox don't think he's that great a prospect. You're still not explaining to us why the Giants or Rays didn't part with any of their 19 5-star prospects to acquire Dunn, since they have so much depth that they can deal them away without flinching...
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) I like your "it's over" defense. Just proves we screwed up. Why should anybody even post at this site? We have no control over any of this. Sports are just a waste of time in general, for that matter. His point is not to defend the team or the FO. His point is that you are RUINING the chance of any good discussion when you keep rehashing all the old awful BS that has been talked about for the last 4 months. Jesus Christ, this is the most sadistic and cynical fanbase in all of sports. One would think we have 57 titles or something.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Like who? The Rays? Dunn would've been an upgrade. But that team is arguably the best in baseball. They don't need Dunn like we need Dunn. They or a team like the Giants could've easily landed him had they wanted to. Well, if they are even better than we are, and getting Dunn would have assured them some form of Postseason success, then shame on them even more. Having all those great pieces in the minor leagues and not sparing one for the sake of a possible World Series trophy...
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) I think his point was, that if we had a bit of a deeper system parting with some of these guys wouldn't be as big of an issue. Then why did none of the teams with the flourishing minor league systems make a deal for Dunn?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) I am happy. But our paper thin system really bit us in the ass. Where were all these other teams dealing away their great prospects for Adam Dunn, Luke Scott, Adam LaRoche, etc? The Rays and their stacked system didn't pick up Dunn. The Yankees and their over slot drafting philosophy didn't go get Dunn. No one traded for these guys, because the demands for them were insane. It's not a matter of our system. It's a matter of it being a stupid, short-sighted transaction.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) You are in the wrong place then... This is either going to keep going until we clinch the division, or for years if we don't. Oh, it will continue even after we clinch the division.
