QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) i sure hope danks is still here and if mark is then a low cost arm with be a necessity Well, unless we somehow become extraordinarily gifted at developing position players, one of those guys at least are going to have to be gone.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) absolutely. I am just saying there have been far better pitching prospects than him that have not made it. You just never know with pitchers, a lot can go wrong. My guess is that with Jake being on the payroll for $17 million, Floyd at $7 million, and Danks probably around $10 million (assuming he would still be here), your other two arms are going to be low-cost arms. Whether one of those ends up being Sale or not, I don't know.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Glaus does have 14 HR and a .822 OPS and Aubrey Huff is at 15/.900 Glaus is an injury risk and the Giants will be looking for another bat. It's hard to speculate exactly who would have interest...but my guess is all you would need would be 3-4 interested parties and that is plenty.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) I think its way too early to be counting on Sale being in the rotation in 2012, let alone ever. Let's wait until he has more than one minor league game under his belt. I'm not counting on anything. But if you're going to start looking at payroll expenditures for 2 years from now, you've got to assume that is where you'd plug Sale in there. Wouldn't you agree that the Org would hope to have Sale in their starting rotation in 2012?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Lets spitball a bit. Who out of all the contenders will be in need of a 1B/DH? Those teams would be: NYY, BOS, TBR, DET, MIN, CHW, TEX, LAA, ATL, NYM, PHI, CIN, STL, SDP, LAD, COL, SFG? Tampa, us, LAA, possibly ATL, possibly SFG

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) @PDcavsinsider - Based on several people who have talked to LeBron in last 72 hours, he is giving impression he's undecided after last week's meetings. He really likes Rose & Noah. But there's lack if shooters on roster. Also it doesn't sound like he's exactly being welcomed by Rose. Also, can confirm several reports of a rift between Wes Wesley & James camp. Wes was indeed pushing Chicago, I'm told. At this point, LeBron has tightly closed ranks, only seriously talking about decision with a couple people. Which is why so little info. Interesting...that's the first thing I've heard about Rose.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) I think we're still going to be looking at LaRoche. The problem with this is EVERYONE is going to be looking at LaRoche.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Jayson Nix with a two homer game. As soon as he raises that average past .218 he'll be leader of the free world. Stalker.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) I also don't want a whole hell of a lot to do with giving Prince Fielder an 8 year deal. Well, he is a bit hefty...and you worry about what he might start to look like when he is 32, 33, 34 years old. I guess I just enjoy talking about acquiring an impact bat...and he is one of the few that I believe may actually become available. Obviously, the chances are not good that a deal of this magnitude gets pulled-off.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) But even a serious playoff run wouldn't be enough to sign Fielder, who is a Boras client, to an extension worth $20 mill per season, which he is almost certain to get. And of course Fielder would sell more tickets and making the playoffs, but the Sox can't make decisions that are going to put them in the red. As was pointed out above, if the Sox were to sign Fielder to an extension, they'd have half of their payroll locked up in 3 players. That's not the way the Sox operate, and, under Reinsdorf, never will be. Doing so would be putting all of their eggs into 3 baskets, and if they failed even a little bit, the Sox would be monumentally screwed. Wite, right now we have $41 million locked up in 3 players. Considering how much money is invested in our pitching staff right now, I don't think it's necessarily impossible to put together a playoff roster even if you've got $50M locked up in 3 guys.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) If we did trade for and extend Prince we'd be paying about $51.5M to Peavy, Rios and Fielder in 2012, doesn't sound like a great idea for a team with a payroll hovering around $100M and possessing a weak farm system. Considering that we might have a rotation of Peavy/Floyd/Hudson/Sale/? in 2012, that might not make things any more difficult than they are currently, in terms of payroll. Currently, we're paying our 5-man rotation and Paul Konerko a total of $48.25M. A rotation of Peavy/Floyd/Hudson/Sale/ plus Fielder would probably put us around $47M. That gives you a few million to play with to add a veteran SP or another young arm to fill out the rotation.

And that is a very fair point. But I am certainly not going to rule out the possibility of it because it doesn't sound like a good idea...

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) I think it's safe to say that with that many capable OF's on the roster, the OF would change probably two to three times a week, no way Ozzie DH's Quentin full time Agreed.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) Fielder will cost way more than this organization is going to be willing to pay, extension wise I didn't know they promoted you to head accountant. Congrats!

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) What kind of OF would you rather have? Upton / Rios \ Quentin or Pierre / Rios \ Upton or Pierre / Upton \ Rios or Pods / Mackowiak \ Dye ?
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) BJ Upton isn't even hitting better than Juan Pierre.. I understand he has talent and a tremendous skill set, but ide rather we get someone who is already hitting good than to acquire BJ Upton for potential.. Problem is you can probably count those guys on about 3 fingers right now.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) putting who in RF, Rios? I'd put BJ in RF
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) How do you see that working, bench Pierre and move Rios to left? Q to DH
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:30 PM) I'd kill for BJ Upton to be on this team. That package of tools is rare. That is one of the only reasons I can think that there were that many scouts in the house...
-
There are scouts from 14 teams, including the White Sox, at the Red Sox - Rays game tonight. Have the Rays made it known that BJ Upton might be available? Tons of scouts at Red Sox - Rays game tonight

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) Wow. Well this automatically (if they weren't already) makes the Twins the team to beat in the Central. Worst case scenario for us. Now it's Kenny's turn. I think it's something Kenny had time to absorb and accept for a week or so though. It was pretty clear that the Twins had an awfully good shot to get him. Hopefully KW has something up his sleeve.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) All-star break coming at a perfect time for Rios (although he should obviously be there). But overall I'm not worried. Hell, Evan Longoria went 3 weeks doing next to nothing offensively. I knew Rios would come down some. But yeah, we need one more bat. We're just not in as dire straights as we were a month ago. I can agree with all of that... There just isn't anything available out there...I feel like Kenny is going to have to do something a bit creative to find something, and preferably sooner rather than later. I'm concerned that if we wait til mid-July the cost is going to be much higher than it probably should be. Anyone have any creative ideas for bats that haven't really been mentioned much?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) Everybody is talking about Prince Fielder, Adam Dunn and Adam Laroche...I feel like we've already added two bats in CQ and 'Lexi. With that said, I'd still prefer another one. Yes indeed, but at the same time, Alex is slowing down and Andruw has become absolutely worthless. We've got to do something about that damn DH role...

Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez....two badass motherf***ers...

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Why dose this team have to score so many runs? They need to save it for Jered Weaver tomorrow! I think we're going to finally go into the positive on the run differential tonight!
