  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Our bullpen, compared to our starting pitchers, is much better. The only guy who's really struggling is Cotts. Pssst...Riske was the guy who put the game out of reach. Surrendering two extra runs in the 7th. Riske can be good, or he can suck. Same thing with Cotts.
  2. Thome was THE LAST guy I wanted to see up there in that situation. Ugh. Anyway, we can still take the series tomorrow, if Vazquez comes out and pitches like he did in Toronto. Go Sox...take the series and bring the momentum into the Detroit series.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) No Giambi, Sheffield, Matsui, or Damon. Damon scored the first run... And what the hell does that have to do with anything? That the Yankees caught the breaks and scored 3 runs last inning? Any team can do that. That's what the Tigers have lived on this year.
  4. Hate to say it, but Randy Johnson just may finish his no-no. Garland is s***ting his pants now after Gorman f***ed him over.
  5. QUOTE(Allsox @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) The Sox got every break known to man from umpires in the playoffs so blaming the umps is something Cub fans do. Abreu hit a bad changeup out, which many teams have done against Sox pitching all yr long. If I'm AJ, I'd never call another change again cuz it's never going to get to him. Uh...no they didn't. The Sox took advantage of the breaks that were given to them. That's why there was such a big deal. Game 3 of the World Series shouldn't even have gone to extra innings. Mike Lamb (I think), hit a ball off the wall, outside of the yellow line...it wasn't a homerun (but was called a homerun). Was there a big deal made about that? No... The Sox won, that's why the media made it look like everything went their way. Not everything did, and if you think it did, you didn't pay much attention to the games. Breaks are going to happen. BUT, that pitch was way too close for Jeter to look at. As a major league hitter, you HAVE TO fight that off, and if you don't, you should be rung up. That's too f***ing close.
  6. Typical inning after the opposition scores a few. Way to make him work guys.
  7. Thank you Brian Gorman for just f***ing us over. Garland struck out both Jeter and Abreu...that's some f***ing bulls*** calls. f*** you Gorman.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) The last 3 responses bring up a fair question...which is weaker long-term, the Sox starting pitching quality, or the leadoff hitter? I can't make up my mind, cuz I think they're both very weak, and I could potentially see a Garcia, Podsednik, and Fields for Peavy deal atleast being discussed. I'm not sure I can see Garcia being packaged along with Podsednik for anything from Tampa Bay. Jake Peavy is having a bad season in the NL. And I also think it's a load of crap that some of you want to do away with Garcia. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I guarantee it. He's a guy that will make you look dumb for ever getting rid of him...I'd be willing to money on that. It pisses me off the way some of you think struggling = a bad pitching staff. This staff is not bad, it's probably the best 1-5 in baseball, when they're pitching to their potential. They have STRUGGLED, they are NOT bad.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) The fact that his contract is up and it's gonna cost a ton to keep him for a few more years if he keeps htis performance up? Exactly. Dye has been great for us, but he's getting older, and has had injury problems in the past. That's not a guy I'd want the Sox to sign to a long-term deal. Take it one year at a time. We have young, and CHEAP corner outfielders waiting...why not?
  10. QUOTE(chisox08 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) i always look forward to the winter meetings and the free agent market of the offseason. just for fun (but be realistic) what are your top 5 moves for the sox in the offseason (u can go less than five).when your done, provide the lineup and SP rotation (u can add the bench to if you want). i always like to know what other sox fans feel need to be done, this should be interesting. my top 5 moves in order: 1. Resign Dye/Iguchi (its a tie) 2. Trade Vazquez so theres room for BMac 3. New leadoff hitter (possibly trade for carl crawford) 4. Sign a DEFENSIVE 4th OFer 5. sign a long reliever/spot starter/mop up guy however u like to say it Lineup: LF Carl Crawford 2B Tadahito Iguchi DH Jim Thome 1B Paul Konerko RF Jermaine Dye 3B Joe Crede C A.J. Pierzynski CF Brian Anderson SS Juan Uribe Im aware Uribe is an FA at seasons end, but i dont think hes worthy of the top 5, but I would like to see him back. Rotation: Contreras Buehrle Garland Garcia McCarthy We still have an option on him for next year. Wait till next year to think about re-signing him. Remember, we will have Fields and Sweeney waiting, both likely corner outfielders next year. Dye is getting up there in age...out with the old, in with the new. Next year will probably be Dye's last with the Sox. And before you say, his role on this team is too big...if we can re-sign Crede, he will likely step into that #5 spot. Crawford will likely be WAY too expensive...you can take McCarthy out of your rotation right now, if you want Crawford. I'd be willing to bet that he will be a Red Sox in the next couple of years (they will overpay for him).
  11. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Bobby's ERA closing in on Todd Jones'... Bobby > Todd Jones. Bobby has been great all year. I know we need him, but he's scuffled a little bit lately, just like everyone has. Every player goes through that. And I'd rather that be a homerun than a basehit, or a walk. Homerun is not a rally starter.
  12. Orioles and Royals have Bobby's number. :?
  13. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) What happened with Liriano? Elbow discomfort. Apparantly, nothing to be concerned about. Twins better hope that "nothing to be concerned about" doesn't mean what it means over in Cubbie land.
  14. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) What the gosh darn does that mean? "Why bring Riske in?" "Riske is on a short leash" On and on and on. Excuse me for making an observation.
  15. Riske proves that most of you have no idea what you're talking about.
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) LOL I just realized why DJ talks by himself in the booth for long stretches of time. Hawk comes here and posts as 'champ'. That's a good one. I said that because JD gets a lot of spiff, and not a lot of praise, when he's done nothing but good things for this team for the past two years. I guess I read his comment wrong.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Dye has had a fair amount of 3 strikeout games this year. That's nice. He's also had a fair amount of games where he was our only offensive threat. Don't even bring up crap like that.
  18. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) c'mon jermaine he's been clutch lately Lately??? When HASN'T he been clutch?
  19. Reggie Sanders is playing on the line and makes the catch.
  20. QUOTE(S720 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) When the hell are people going to realize hindsight has always been 20/20? Hell, let's blame every fishing thing on Ozzie, if it makes people feel happy! This is what happens when things aren't going well. Look at teams like the Royals, who can't keep a manager for more than a couple of years. Is it because the managers are really that bad? I wouldn't say so, I didn't think Tony Pena was a bad manager...it's because the team sucks, and things aren't going well. It's a load of bullspiff, how much a manager can get praise when they're winning, and criticized when they're losing. The manager does do key things, but the PLAYERS have to perform.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) Kabooom! What looked like a solidly played night, full of fundamentals, has now turned into a nightmare that will be terrible for the team psyche. Come on, Matty. Get out of this with the tie. Oh, I didn't know that they fishing lost. GMAFB...that's called uttering bullspiff. I came here hoping I could get a little more intelligent baseball talk than WSI, and it's even WORSE over here.
  22. I swear this team cannot catch a fishing break. DeJesus gets a gift walk and then this spiff happens.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) That ball was hit very well. The wind is blowing out from right to left. Crede's double stayed up as well. So did Ozuna's flyout in the first. So the wind definately is a factor in rightfield.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Buehrle's in one of those stretches where every bad pitch you make is hammered. That ball is a flyout on any normal day. No biggie.
  25. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) Yeah....MB has lost something. Velocity or movement or maybe the element of surprise. Has he been figured out....has he become predictable? I dunno, and I hope he can find it and fix it, just for his sake. More like the wind blew that ball right out of the park...
