Burger’s OPS’s have been 117, 113 and 120 and he had hard hit numbers comparable to Ohtani last year. Sorry just not buying that he’s an average hitter. Sox obviously aren’t growing 30 HR type hitters on trees here. At any rate, I don’t agree with trading a productive major league player with control for a single B- type prospect. Should have at least got two Eder types if you were going to trade him

Productive? 2.2 fWAR in 858 career PA. Nicky López has been a more productive MLB player.

Some of the board has decided anyone they acquire is a real prospect while anyone they give up is not a prospect and not worth crying about.

I didn’t understand dumping Rodriguez for nothing. My only guess was that there were off field issues the organization was concerned about but that was pure speculation. The two things you describe are not mutually exclusive.

I’ll believe it when I see it.  Fedde is their best trade chip and he isn’t even returning a top 100 prospect.

Also, if they don’t trade guys like DeJong and Flexen soon, their numbers are going to flatline back to terrible and the Sox won’t get anything for them.

Aren’t you the same poster that said the Sox wouldn’t lose 90 games last season and then when it was obvious they would you ghosted the board?

I’ve been off and on this board for years. This is probably the most active I’ve been here in years and I’m still only around for a small fraction of the time you spend in here.

Either way, all your whining and moaning last month about the offseason vet signings was for naught. As I said over a month ago, there were NO impact free agents available with the budget Getz was constrained to. You aren’t finding multiple quality free agents at less than $5M per year in one offseason. Quite frankly, the vet signings of Fedde, Flexen, Pham, DeJong, Hill, Brebbia have worked out far better than I could have imagined considering their bargain bin prices.

DeJong might being a relief prospect at best. Thats all he brought back last year and I bet his offense dips between now and when he’s traded. Still nice to get anything back though but doubt they get a “real” prospect for him.

I’m not saying he’s bringing back a top 100 mlb prospect but someone like the guy Grossman brought back sure. That’s all guys like Rosario or Taylor were ever going to bring back too (in the best case scenario).

  5. Posters like @WhiteSox2023 are going to be in shambles when guys like Pham, DeJong, and Fedde return real prospects. All I heard about for the first month of the season is how the Sox should have signed Amed Rosario and Michael Taylor because they would be great trade deadline flip candidates. Meanwhile, DeJong has a higher fWAR than both of those guys combined and Pham is about to do the same in a fraction of the games played 😂

  6. Jacob Gonzalez OPS up to .872. He keeps this up the rest of the season and he just might find himself in a top 100 prospect list come this offseason. Btw, Enrique Bradfield sitting at .682 OPS. I mention because he was often used as an example of poor drafting by the Sox last offseason since Bradfield went two picks later..

The Sox have been shut out once in the last 16 games. Extending this current trend through the season, they'd get shut out 16 times, total.

It’s also crazy seeing the positive impact of adding just one plus bat to the lineup. Sox are 7-6 since adding Tommy Pham to the team.

.500 ball is probably the ceiling for this team on their hottest of hot streaks. That certainly looks better than the alternative.

I was certain they were a 120 loss team a couple weeks ago. I no longer see that as a certainty. I’m thinking ~110 now. Still terrible but not record setting. And we’re seeing some positive signs from young guys like Leasure and Ramos, which is really nice to see.

Burger put up a .760 OPS in 2022.

He put up an .827 OPS last year.

But now that he has a .612 OPS in 69 at bats, he’s a DFA candidate in a couple years?

    What?

Teams, and especially teams like the marlins, generally don’t pay 30 year old DHs that are average hitters much more than league minimum. So yes, I believe he will be a DFA candidate in 2-3 years or perhaps even sooner.

Sure, I'll trust the guy who couldn't develop LatAm signings outside of a $52M signing in Luis Robert, Oscar Colas (expensive signing with NPB experience that he now hates), Lenyn Sosa (now doghoused), and hopefully Bryan Ramos to find a Tatis Jr.

I mean if we’re going to be dramatic about all this then I will too. Bound to get lucky eventually if they trade their vets in two months for half a dozen 40/45 FV prospects.

Okay, what are the positives that I have missed for the Sox?  Wilson has looked good.  I did like his inclusion in the Cease trade from the start.  I didn’t think Fedde would have been as good as he has so far.  Not sure who else I have missed.  The negatives have outweighed the positives for the Sox.

Specific to this trade, have you said anything positive about Thorpe or Iriarte? If I remember correctly, you were railing on Thorpe after his one bad spring training start.

2 hits in 34 at bats.  Was it Robin Ventura who had a terrible start to his rookie season?

But he is only 20.  I’m sure he will pan out eventually.

Point is, Orioles (and MLB’s) top prospect didn’t look good in his first mlb stint so not ALL orioles prospects are looking good this season. You choose to focus on the positives for other teams and disregard the negatives. For the Sox, you choose to only focus on the negatives and disregard the positives. I guess that’s your schtick.

Sorry, I should have said Orioles prospects.  I never liked Hall.  I guess they were smart afterall to never offer Getz Cowser for Cease.

Meh, Cowser is coming back down to earth in a hurry after a ridiculous start to the season. Let’s see where he’s at in a few months.

You must not have read my previous posts.  I said I was never a fan of Hall.  The Orioles hyped up a mediocre reliever as a potential starter.

What Orioles castaways are you talking about then? Ortiz and Hall were the only ones sent in that deal. So one is a decent utility player and one is a terrible long reliever. And you’re impressed with how well their castaways are doing. What am I missing?

  15. 1 minute ago, WhiteSox2023 said:

I’m not defending it.  I’m glad the Sox didn’t make that trade.  I was just surprised how well some of the cast away Orioles players are doing.

What are you taking about? DL Hall has a 7.71 ERA. He’s worse than Chris Flexen and it’s not even close tbh.

He's like an inverted Bummer right now. He's got a .135 BABIP against him (while he's had low his last two seasons, not that low) and his FIP is 6.22.

He might be the one pitcher benefiting from the defense.

He’s a cheap controllable reliever with a career ERA in the mid 3’s. He stays healthy and continues this level of production for two months he’ll return a 45 FV prospect. Not bad for a 4th piece in the Cease trade no?
