  1. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) Chances of the Sox exercising that option are virtually zero. Man I hope you are right cause Uribe's big BA just isnt cutting it! I was just trying to give an example of the pay raises for next season is all.
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) How would the pay roll increase next year? Just by player raises and such. For instance Uribe for one will make more money if the Sox excersize his option.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) No, mediocre is the word, he has no power, doesn't draw walks and doesn't drive in runs, he's mediocre. Dye was a risk but it was a great risk to take with major upside, he was coming off some injuries but was still known as a very good hitter when healthy and they gave him a pretty cheap deal. Erstad is bad offensive player who will be limited defensively while coming off ankle surgery but worst of all he's going to be relied upon to be the team's leadoff hitter to start the season which is pretty ridiculous. What does power have anything to do with it? Do ya really think the Sox need more power? Power isnt something they desperately need. Come on now. We didnt pick him up for power anyway depite the fact he has hit 25 in a season before. We needed a solid backup OF in case Pods or BA bomb or have injuries which is the case now with Pods. I wont argue that he doesnt draw walks but neither does Pods and neither drive in runs which isnt a big deal anyway cause they are lead off guys, they wont drive in alot anyway. Erstad isnt my first choice either but Im glad we have him especially now that Pods is having problems yet again. Whos to say Darin cant get back to swinging the bat like he did in 2000? As for mediocre, well thats just your opinion and thats fine but when the guy can stay healthy he's better than mediocre and his career numbers show it.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Erstad has been a mediocre offensive player for the past 6 years. And people really have to stop mentioning Dye and Erstad in the same sentence, talk about completely different players and circumstances. Well I dont agree with mediocre but the point is Dye was a risky signing at the time cause of his injury problems just like Erstad is but we got both for cheap and ya never know he could be another cheap addition that helps us get back to the playoffs. Worth the small risk anyway.
  5. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) Dreadful. Hopefully he plays bad enough that Ozzie loses his vet fetish and realizes he is one of the worst players in MLB. Thats a bit rough dont ya think? For one KW signed Erstad and not Ozzie for two Erstad made it real easy for Angel fans to forget about Edmonds cause he so damn good. The guy has had injury problems but ya cant deny what he did before the injuries and he's only 32. KW would have signed Erstand if he wasnt ready to come back at 100% and contribute. Same s*** was said when Dye was signed and thats worked out damn good.
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) 1.000/1.000/1.000 with 52 stolen bases, but still hated by Soxtalk members for his poor defense/arm. I wouldnt say thats entirely true, at least not for me anyway. Its alot easier to to be patient with his arm and fielding if he's dropping down bunts, getting infield singles and stealing bases like what he did in 05.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) That and his lack of strength, unimpressive agility, constant injuries, choppy running style and the deterioration of speed we've seen over the past few years. The guy is just not an athlete. I agree 100%. It amazes me when taking into consideration what you just said that he even hes speed.
  8. Edit on my last post...should have said gracefull. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) Don't get me started on twinkle toes in LF At least Ozuna has the excuse of not being a natural OF. Pods just makes me sick. Nice guy but he's worse than CLee was.
  9. Kalapse....I take you're talking about his gracious ballerena style of playing LF?
  10. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) He needs to learn how to bunt again, pods would be amazing with a slap hit, similiar to castillo. Yes he does. Thats the problem with him...he doesnt but much anymore and he isnt that good of hitter so when he doesnt have his legs working he doesnt get those infield singles from deep in the hole at short or down the 3B line.
  11. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) It always seems like he is stiking out after working a good count. He goes 2-0, looks at strike 1, swings at ball3 and then looks at srike 3. I couldnt have said it better my self. He needs to let rip more often on hitters counts.
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) hes more of a walking dimwhit than rex grossman. Man you're not kidding. I just dont get this guy. I know some guys are just injury prone and Pods is looking to be one of them cause he hasnt been healthy and played a full season since his days with Brewers. Dont get me wrong, I appreciate all he did in 05 but even then he had Hammy probs and I think the groin thing popped up to if I remember right. I guess all we can do is hope he gets healthy so he can contribute or get traded.
  13. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) If this deal would be accepted, it would have been done thirteen times by now. Go back two months to all the crawford, pelfrey, baldelli talk. I agree with ya. Crawford especially will be bring a return of more than just a top 10 prospect but at least a top #1 prospect plus whatever else. Depends on what they would be looking for in return. Phillips is nothing more than an after thought in any deal, an oh yeah we'll throw him in too kind of guy and Broadway has only started 1 game in Charlotte so his value isnt that high yet. If Lance can have a good season in Charlotte, which I think he will, then yes maybe a package centered around Broadway could possibly get a guy like Crawford but even then ya still have to give up at least one more top ten prospect along with Lance and probably an A or AA guy too.
  14. Pods gets divorced and remembers how to stay healthy and play baseball again. Sorry I couldnt pass that up. Seriousley though... .270 b/a .320 o/b 26 sb's I hope Im wrong but I think he ends up with nagging injuries again this year. If not the groin the Hammy thing will come back again to slow him down. I really hope Im wrong!
  15. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) im perfectly fine with pablo leading off, he was pretty good at it last year but i just dont like him defensively. I agree with ya. He was terrible at the beginning last year, the game in KC especially, but did improve as the season went on. He is a liability out in LF.
