  1. McCarthy was a 2002 pick.

Basically, if you think Young and McCarthy were the 2 best Sox draftees since 2001, they happened while Laumann was the amateur scouting director.

Which is not saying much. 2.5 players in what 5 years.. Can we steal someone from Atl to run our Scouting?

  2. 29th.. ONly one player in 3 years has been worth a damn, maybe 2 if you count Ring.. That is sad, that we wasted 3 years of drafting for nothing. Hell I think we would have been better off, if they would have done a NBA lottery for us to pick players. I know that the draft is a crap shoot, but still you would think you could have gotten something better than that.

  3. Yo I'm in on this bet! I say it's Erstad first. Seeing that it's been a while, he gets spooked by the fireworks after "Thunderstruck" starts and tweaks a hammy, knocking him out for all of August.

    Who's with me?

I was thinking that he gets hurt while the introductions of him stepping out of the Dugout, he sprains his ankle again

  4. Greg, I completely agree with you on what you said about KW. His track record prior to and after 05..Less than Stellar to be nice. His Pens have always been pile of scrap heap hoping for 2005 all the time. And Until Ozzie got here, his SP was just as bad. I think 05, was more Ozzie's mouth telling the media in 04 that this no pitching all hitting machine doesn't win. KW was forced to make changes.. and was lucked into 2005.

I let KW slide for 06, but 2007.. is downright his fault. Coming into this year, the team didn't fix any of the holes of 06, instead he created more holes and we have no one in our farm system to replace them. Our Pen was an issue in 06, yet we let Riske go to the Royals, and instead go with "power" arms, that didn't work on other teams. Our Big FA signing was Toby Hall, who was needed but we also needed a CF/LF as well. We needed a SS and we are left with Uribe, who contuines to make stupid play after stupid play. Yet we were told when we question his moves that he is all knowing... and we the fans don't know s***. Now he has a 100mil payroll and tied with the Royals, who are on the rise, while we keep falling.

The sad part is JR will let him stay on and continue to ruin this franchise all because of 2005. Personally I would like to see him rebuild from within, yes its going to suck for a while, but looking at DET/CLE and Minny.. They have mini dynasty build while we had one magical year and then faded away. I could take losing till 09/10 time to rebuild a team from our own farm system, not have a 100mil payroll. Money doesn't equal winning..just ask the Yankees and Cubs how well that has worked the last 10 years.

  5. I see no harm in it. Too put it nicely, I don't think Floyd will show much, but I'd give him a shot now rather then next year when we are in contention.

    Bob

I agree on giving Floyd a shot.. but I can't see how this team is in contention with no farm, Old players not preforming and a high payroll right now.

  6. He should've held onto guys like Marte and Riske, and also acquired a vet in the offseason. He gambled with a ton of projects, and all of them failed.

I never understood why he didn't hold onto Riske, we gave up basically nothing for him.. He pitched very well here..Didn't make allot of sense. Marte.. He was on his way out during the 05 season..Heads Summed it up for me on the trade.

  7. I just find it ridiculous anyone thinks he could be a fourth OF when he's a left fielder at best, and a crappy CF.

Don't those always make the best 4th OF!?!?!

Seriously.. Who are they going to put in the pen? Everyone KW has brought up or sent down this year just SUCKS. Other than 05.. has any of his pens been any good?

  8. It is pricey.. Best bet is to have a the sandwhiches.. I never had to pay, always eaten on cop account there.

    example..

    10beers

    nachos

    hotwings

    5 sandwiches

was around 120-130 range if I remmeber correctly.

We go up have a beer or two.. eat downstairs, get a brat on the concourse much cheaper and larger portions.

  9. If hunter is going to be 12-14 Mil per year at 5 years or so there is no way Rowand gets more than $10. You should be able to get both rowand and Byrnes for something between $8-$10 per year (backloaded).

Ichio(sp) just inked a deal for 90mil now granted that some of it is differed.. But still that is the market value for CF. Rowand is not going get less than 10mil esp with the number of teams that need a CF, and limited supply of quality ones.. even if Rowand is a decent CF.

personally I don't want to see him back, we need to rebuild this roster.. bringing him back does nothing for us.

  10. Does anyone else like the idea of paying $10 mil a year for an OF with a .750 OPS, who will hit 30 next year? I just don't see him actually being the .900 OPS guy he is this year or was in 2003.

With the current market value.. I think 10mil might be the bargain price we get him at. Other teams.. ie the ones don't land Hunter will go even higher.

  11. I really, really dislike the idea of giving Rowand what his market value will be after this season.

I agree, He has had 2 seasons where he was hitting well. Decent Def.. And Avg player about to get more than Garland or Mark.. NO thanks.
