  1. I think today is a combo of Davies hitting his spots with decent stuff, and our inability to generate any kind of offense on non-mistakes at this point. Having Wise in the lineup certainly doesn't help, nor does having Quentin and Alexei 0-fer. Luckily, KC can't hit either.
  2. Of Twins and RISP .314 was their average with RISP last year. It's unsustainable. Even if they're in the .280s, very respectable, they'll lose .034 off their average, which is quite a few runs.
  3. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) Off topic at the moment, but I'm sick of this and had to get it off my chest. I'm f***ing sick of the fact that Carlos Zambrano is considered an ace pitcher, when he's far from it. 2007-3.95 ERA, 1.33 WHIP 2008-3.90 ERA, 1.29 WHIP From 2003-2006 he was. He has regressed a bit since then.
  4. Normally when you hear a story like this involving a pro athlete, you almost expect to see something about the athlete doing drugs or drinking or some other stupid thing. In this case, some idiot ran a red light.
  5. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) New faces, same game plan. When is it gonna change? When we face a pitcher who isn't dealing like Greinke is.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) I can see not spending that money on Taveras...by the way, Homer Bailey is back down in the minors, I wonder if we could still make the Dye for Bailey/Dickerson trade with Jocketty? Why? Did Bailey have a bad spring?
  7. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Why would the ideal world have Alexei getting the least at-bats of all the starters?I'd rather it be Alexei instead of Josh Fields. Also, said ideal world includes a solid lineup from top to bottom. Alexei being the hitter who "deserves" the least at-bats of all the starters is a good problem to have. Who would you prefer hitting 9th?
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I don't doubt any of that, and I don't want to say anything is likely going to happen at this point. I just really like what I've seen from Getz thus far and his statistics generally back up what I've seen. I think he's going to be a good player in the majors.I wholeheartedly agree, I think he's going to be very solid, and shouldn't be moved for any reason barring an injury or poor performance. I just think trading any of our position player talent at this point (unless it's for an absolute no-brainer of a deal), with Konerko, Thome, Dye, and AJ nearing the end of their time here (and the hole in CF), would be extremely foolish.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) You would think that Ramirez would get more fastballs to hit in the 2-hole, and he crushes the fastball. I would have absolutely no problem with Alexei in the 2-hole.In an ideal world, I think Alexei profiles best as a #9 hitter. I wouldn't mind seeing him hit second, though. If Orlando Cabrera can do it, Alexei can do it better.
  10. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) Just so people realize, once getz take over leading off, our two hole will also be very bad, not wise bad, but bad. Pierzynski is far from ideal and definitely not someone you want getting the second most at-bats on the team. What it comes down to though... Getz Wise Pierznyski > Getz I can't imagine why anyone would do that, yet I know you're right, because Ozzie would be immensely pleased with himself for filling out an LRLRLR lineup card.
  11. Okay, guys, let's slow down here a little. Getz is a good player but he's more than likely not going to block Beckham, and we'd be nuts to trade Beckham unless it was for something spectacular. Far more likely would be Beckham moving to 3B and Fields moving to DH/1B, Alexei moving to CF, Getz being traded, Getz becoming a super sub with ~ 300 AB a season, or Alexei never repeating his rookie year success and being sent down to the minors or relegated to a bench role.
  12. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Step right up to claim your prize. I came here to say that. To pile on, Wise is a 31 year old journeyman I had not heard of until last year. If you bat him 9th, fine, whatever I'll complain less. But nothing is more irritating than the "you need the fastest guy leading off" argument. It's baseball stupid. He's not even the fastest. Getz is faster and smarter on the basepaths. And yeah, it's banging a broken drum by this point, but it's just such a mind-bogglingly bad idea to have Wise playing CF every day, much less bat him leadoff, that I think the broken-record complaints are warranted.
  13. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Fun stat of the game: The Sox are undefeated when Wise K's 3 times in a game.Obviously, he is the glue that holds together the gears of our White Sox.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) still trying to figure out why they didn't bring in Mahay to face Thome...but I'll take it.My theory is, Trey Hillman religiously reads the dugout and wants to read the inevitable, hilarious confrontation between Thome and Farnsworth that will arise from this. For those of you who don't know: http://mlb.fanhouse.com/category/the-dugout/
  15. Chris Getz shows Wise how it's done. 1st and 3rd, 1 out.
  16. Wise bunts on 2-0 and barely avoids popping out to Olivo. ...And does the same on 2-1, popping it up over 1B dugout. Yes DJ, bunting should be almost automatic in the majors. You're the best players in the world. You should be able to do something I could do in little league.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) Fields with the bunt single... means Wise should be bunting as well.Yes please.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Looks like another one of those "We don't win many games if we don't hit a HR" type seasons.Meche has kept the ball down and on the corners. You don't score many runs if all you do is hit grounders.
  19. We need to start making Meche work harder. KC doesn't have much of a bullpen besides Soria, but that won't matter if Meche lasts into the 8th.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Still, Brian Anderson is FAR from the answer at leadoff. It's the SAME exact problem we've been looking straight in the face for five months now. I like him at #9, with Getz leading off. I think that's the best we've got for now.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) is a "quality start" 5 or 6 innings of 3 runs or less?Six IP,
  22. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Buerhle does not have it today....So far only 1 run given up, but yeah he's struggling mightily. Just hit Jacobs.
