QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) I wonder whose wife he drilled. My "sources" on Google seem to think it was Will MacKenzie's now ex-wife Alli Spencer, who was a FHM model.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) I'm by no means a golf insider, but the source isn't outing anything that's been kind of known for awhile, especially the jet ski injury b.s. I get that, but it's different if everyone "knows" about his drug problem, as opposed to someone with inside knowledge telling golf.com who posts it as their head story on their website.

Quite the dick move by this "source"

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) In the case of Beckham, I do not believe this to be true. I won't argue it, but I believe Semien is a superior option at this point. I don't disagree, but I think Semiem may be better served finishing the year off at AAA and starting anew at the MLB level in 2015. He didn't exactly prosper in April or May, other than a few timely hits. Let Beckham finish the year, and give Semien the job next year.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) I think most GMs will have some caution with Melky because of his prior PED bust, but you're right, it only takes one GM to do something stupid. Probably a bit unrealistic, but maybe he wants to hit free agency one more time at 33? Regardless, he's definitely the type of bat we should be looking to add. For some reason I thought he was a decent defensive player too, but FanGraphs says differently. I still think I would take a chance at 3/39, although I don't know if I'm ready to give up on Tank. That's why I'm an engineer and not a GM.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) I like all those moves but don't see how the tigers don't keep Martinez. Also I wonder If Grandals career can be resurrected , or was he just highly touted because of the ped? Any way you look at his number they are just awful lol Agreed. Now that they have Price to replace Scherzer, they can afford to give VMart a bigger contract to stay for a couple years.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) 1. Adam Eaton, CF 2. Marcus Semien, 2B 3. Jose Abreu, 1B 4. Victor Martinez, DH (2 years, $30M) 5. Melky Cabrera, LF (3 years, $39M) 6. Avisail Garcia, RF 7. Conor Gillaspie, 3B 8. Yasmani Grandal, C (acquired for Davidson & Beck) 9. Alexei Ramirez, SS Honestly I like that idea, but I have to wonder if he can be had that cheap. He's hitting like he did just before his PED bust and at only 30 you know some GM will offer him way more. He's actually hitting better away from his home band box in Toronto.

There was a game today? Who schedules baseball during the best trade deadline in sports?
-
Casey Janssen & Luke Gregerson combined would probably cost nearly $15-$20 million a season, that seems a bit excessive for bullpen help.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) This trade was the ultimate "Kenny Williams" deal. Trade tomorrow for today, and next year be damned. When your owner is close to dying, and your star hitter is getting fatter & slower by the hour, and your best pitcher is about leave via free agency, I'd say it's the right move to make.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) The Tigers spend spend and spend with zero rings to show for it. It's funny how baseball works. The Tigers have easily been the better franchise over the past 10 years, but the White Sox have the ring.
-
Price, Scherzer, Sanchez, Verlander vs. Lester, Gray, Kazmir, Samardzija That could be a fun ALCS
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) The Sox aren't winning anything in 2015 anyway. It makes no difference. By the time the Sox have a chance to win the division, Price will be a highly paid free agent in another town. Exactly. Price won't be offering them a discount, so if he stays there long-term it's gonna be a mega deal that he would have signed either way.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) It's very unlikely that today's performance really changed opinions teams have of Danks. He is a back-end rotation arm making $15 million. Today will not change that. That's why I don't believe he was ever being traded. Not only is Hahn risking injury, but he's also putting him up against one of the top offenses in baseball.

Lester + Gomes to OAK for Cespedes
LittleHurt05 replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) Gentry broke his hand. Fuld/Gomes in LF, Crisp in CF and Reddick in RF. Crisp's neck is half broken, so they definitely can use all the depth they can get. Moss & Vogt can also play the outfield. -
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) Viciedo for Andrew Miller, then re-sign Miller to an extension. 3/18 Book it. Fireable offense if Hahn does that
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) Red Sox are doing pretty great today. Cespdes, Craig, and Kelly for Lester, Lackey, and Gomes. That's how you "rebuild" for next season.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) I wonder if Ortiz will be put on the market too. Boston seems to be doing some house cleaning and clearly focusing on next years draft. No way. His 2015 salary isn't awful and he has two team-friendly options for 2016 & 2017. Trading for Cespedes shows they care about winning in 2015, not to mention Ortiz is the Derek Jeter of Boston, you can't just trade him that easily. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) Maybe a negotiation thing. You pull your player because you have multiple suitors & you want them to know that the time is near, it's time to make your best/final offer, etc. If you have only one serious suitor you probably don't pull that. Then the suitors pull out because Danks appeared to grimace on that pitch, or a comebacker hit him in the ankle.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) He hasn't gotten hurt starting any of the other games he's made this year. Maybe we should tie him to a pole and wrap him in bubble wrap, tell him "you stay right here & eat rice cakes I don't want you getting hurt in case we trade you! No human contact either what if you get a cough?" I'm willing to bet Danks won't get hurt today. The odds of Danks getting hurt today are slim to none, but why even risk it if you a think a trade is near? The Red Sox scratched Jon Lester, the Cubs kept Bonaficio out of the lineup, why?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:31 AM) Not entirely true. Teams like SF have an interest in Beckham. He'd actually be an upgrade over Dan Uggla.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) Isn't the deadline like 3pm CT or something like that every year? If so that's 3 hours after game time. Sox shouldn't be expected to mess up his routine. If he's dealt they'll pull him late. You don't risk him getting injured though. I'm sure they have had enough discussions with other teams that everyone knows where they stand. They aren't close to a deal with anyone, so unless someone ups their offer before game time, no reason to mess with the rotation.
