Jon Heyman Giants are nearing a deal with denard span, sources say https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/685229511261163522

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Then this thread can be deleted. I f***ing hate the Sox sometimes. They're one good hitter away from being a legit contender and of course they won't go for it. SMDH. Seriously. Them sticking to 3 years for guys like Cespedes/Upton is an insult to them and the fanbase. My moral was up for this year after the Frazier trade but it just came crashing back down.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) From Nightengale: The #WhiteSox haven't changed stance, still won't give more than 3 years to any of the free-agent OFs, @Marty2634 That's an absolute joke. Stop trying to get Cespedes then and go straight for Fowler or someone else who is a marginal upgrade.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) That article should piss some people off. If that really was the plan, I wouldn't blame anyone for being pissed off, but even Merkin reported the White Sox would bring in an OF. Yeah, the whole "banking on Garcia improving and LaRoche bouncing back" is awful, awful news if true. I mean hey there's even the "they could make a move during the season to, you know!"

White Sox in no rush to sign outfielder

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) I agree with this and I agree that you can't trade for Frazier and do nothing else. I just hate going after a FA who just had a career year, to me you are setting yourself up for a large financial commitment that won't work out and stump us for years. I also understand get why we are going for Cespedes, I just don't see that deal working out for us. I agree with you, I'm not a big fan of Cespedes and these situations definitely have a habit of not working out for the Sox. But they put themselves in a tough position by trading for Frazier. From a business standpoint, you can't show that to the general fanbase and just stop. Todd Frazier was a good move but he will not sell tickets. I've seen a few posters on here say they would pick up plans if they sign a big OF upgrade. Hahn has already stated they're not done in the OF and if by not being "done" there means going out and getting Denard Span or Dexter Fowler there are many, many casual fans who will laugh them off.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) I still disagree that the previous moves committ the sox to this. They traded for a 3B to hold the spot until their next prospect (Trey M.) should be ready. He is a stop gap but a good one. You don't trade for an All Star third baseman to be a stopgap.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) No, not for another four years, assuming we pick up both team options. I see it now, thanks. Baseball Resources said he was a FA in 2018 when I checked last and didn't mention his options.
-
Sale is a FA in two years as well, isn't he?
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) Watch Hahn surprise everyone and trade for CarGo. I would prefer this if you can't land Cespedes/Upton. I don't know how you do that without giving up Anderson though.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Why? It isn't a win now year. If anything, the sox get Danks and LaRoche off the books next year so they will have more salary room. This could be the building year for following year. It could be a win now year but it doesn't need to be if the price becomes outrageous. Because you only have two years of Todd Frazier and the FA class next year is awful.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) But it's a win-now year. The draft pick could cause his average annual salary to go down too (and it's not our best pick either) Dexter Fowler is not a move that puts you over the Royals.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) This guy below isnt a source but he is along my way of thinking. I feel like they are pushing the Royals to spend...now they'll push someone else to spend........and then when the big names are off the board, they'll have a three year deal with a Dex Fowler or Gerardo Parra or something, which will leave enough money to bring back Alexei and be holeless. I may be crazy but I think that's the plan. James Fegan @JRFegan 4m4 minutes ago The crowded OF market could allow the Sox to get someone good on three years or less, just not Cespedes nor Upton. Giving up a draft pick for Dexter Fowler would be monumentally stupid IMO.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #WhiteSox would not go 4 years on Gordon, as @BNightengale said. Will they adjust on Cespedes? Gordon 32 this season, Cespedes 30. .....they're seriously sticking to the 3 year thing? Welp, goodbye Cespedes.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) Cant help think how signing Yoenis means we'd still have a bad LH bat problem....and we'd be still suffering from a scary OBP problem. That's what scares me the most, no one in the lineup save for Eaton and Abreu can get on base. It would be a solo homer happy team.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 09:13 PM) This person has followers. Legit at all? https://twitter.com/royalsclubhouse/status/...564379208003585 He was the guy that first said the Sox were the main competition for Gordon.
-
I'm sure they would love to sign someone before SoxFest and I believe a shoe will drop before then. As someone said earlier, once someone signs I think we'll see the others sign in quick succession.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) I'm really, really hoping the Sox sign Gordon over Cespedes I'm in this camp as well, I like Cespedes as protection for Abreu but your 4-7 will just not be able to get on base and I feel there's will be too many solo HRs.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) I have a good feeling something is gonna happen today Have you heard something or just guessing?
-
I believe we end up with Gordon as well. I always thought the Cespedes stuff was to drive Gordon's price down.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Why do people still quote this guy? He's the one who claimed to be Tim Anderson's best friend. I was unaware of his reputation, sorry.
-
More smoke, second person claiming Cespedes will sign with the Sox. @rickslat123 Multiple sources: Yoenis Cespedes @ynscspds has told White Sox he will sign with them. Deal worth north of 110 million. #mlb https://twitter.com/rickslat123/status/682015844033937408
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) I asked him if he'd bet his reputation on this rumor, and he said yes, FWIW. It's not like he's an actual baseball writer, betting his reputation as a Twitter user doesn't mean much of anything.
-
Uhhhhhh this guy is saying we're signing Cespedes to a 6 year $125-135 mil deal, per his "source" within the Sox. @PatrickHoward50 Per source within the White Sox organization; team will ink Yoenis Cespedes to a 6-year deal. Dollar amount pegged at $125-135 million. https://twitter.com/PatrickHoward50/status/...998926887518209 Rabbit, bucket any info here?

Gordon. I feel he's a much better all around player, this team needs OBP and defense badly. You can live on the HR but when it's of the solo variety it's going to be difficult.
