Kinda shocked there is no Gavin Sheets on this taxi squad roster just purely for the development purposes, I know there isn’t really any room for him on the roster with Abreu, Encarnacion, Collins and Grandal all ahead of him for playing time there and Vaughn as the successor at 1B but it would nice to have him get some kind of action to be able to use him as a trade chip down the line.

Honestly, he is going to be the starting 3B if he only has 1 day of practice provided he’s healthy. This lineup can/will cover down for him if he struggles early getting into the swing of things and the upside that he brings far outweighs the idea of easing him into the lineup and playing a guy like Mendick or Cuthbert at 3rd base whose production would probably be about what Moncada gives you during a slow start anyways.

Interesting that they only have 59 players on the total Roster instead of 60. Wonder if they are saving a spot for a transaction later down the line.

I’d much rather see if McCann and/or Mercedes could flash some leather down there and hold down the fort for Moncada than that dude...

If Cuthbert can’t get into the country and hypothetically Moncada is on the shelf for an unknown length of time do they start the season with Mendick as the 3B and Garcia at 2B till madrigals service time can finish being manipulated? Anyone know if McCann or Collins can play some 3B?

With summer camp officially started I figured it would be nice to have a catch all thread versus jumping in between 2-3 posts.

Last I remembered them saying right before spring training ended was he was throwing soft toss and was almost good to go/ it wasn’t a huge concern so with it being a few months ago hopefully nothing has flared up and he’s duly healthy

It’d be awesome if the Sox took another look at Puig for a shortened /crapshoot of a 60 game season, at this point it can’t hurt right?

I agree he most likely wouldn’t be used when u have first base options of EE Abreu Collins and then Sheets to go through first but having those guys on a taxi squad would be huge just for the learning curve is what I was getting at

With this season being what it is id like to see the young promising recent draft picks all on the taxi squad to continue their development in whatever way possible and if they have to eventually be used so be it. It would be awesome to see Stiever, Crochet, Dalquist, Thompson, Kelley, Madrigal, Vaughn, Sanchez, Sheets, and Gonzalez all on the taxi squad. I don’t want to see your Palka’s and Detwiler’s taking up these potential learning scenarios who won’t be with the organization past this season

I don’t understand some of the issue here. If you hit on both picks thats 40 percent of your eligible draft selections. I would say that’s a pretty damn good job if it works out...

Not if those 2 end up being studs who cares about the remaining 3 picks....
