I’m not necessarily blaming it on Hahn, but the shrewdness of the owner.....if you don’t handcuff your GM I have complete faith he would have landed him and Machado would be a White Sox.

That’s what I mean though, Machado was the guy they wanted and had their eye on for 2 years or so they say....if you aren’t willing to go the distance for your guy they aren’t going to be major players in many down the road when the big boys come to play in free agency

And this is exactly why I don’t see the White Sox landing a big time free agent anytime soon. Jerry hamstrings his front office so they can’t land a big named guy, always has been the case and always will....

This....if they are indeed bidding on him there is no chance they are going to be as public with things as they were with Machado, that way if they don’t land him they don’t have fans expectations up and make this even worse. With that said, I don’t think they are in it...

I think he’s saying it’s crazier to think of Jerry having a budget to fit both of them in under more than it is to think of the Sox backing up the trucks to pay Harper a ton of cash

In all fairness to RH.....he deserves some of this blame but wasn’t the Great negotiator Jerry Reinsdorf the one in complete control of negotiations, they needed the experienced negotiator that is Jerry to run the show.....someone with much higher experience.....this is where it doesn’t matter what GM you prop up there as a puppet, if JR is as stubborn as he has been it will continue to get you absolutely nowhere and this organization will continue down the path of failure

Oh he’s easily going to top the 300 mark no doubt, that is the new starting point for Harper now but i doubt its going to be as high as I think he might have initially gotten to if the Sox landed Machado.... if it goes up it won’t be because the Whitesox, that’s for sure, we weren’t going to 300 mil on the player we WANTED let alone our second choice
