If you were a fan of fresh prince of Bel air, the new series is a solid spin on it. It's modern and serious,  but there are also some solid Easter eggs thru it.  The characters are really well done.

It looked interesting but I wish they'd quit putting all these shows on these streaming services that I don't feel like paying for.

I watched the first season of the new Saved By the Bell show on a free preview but that's about it.

I pay for Netflix and my daughter pays for Disney+ but I don't want to have to add a dozen other services.

Candyman was decent.  Gory and scary in parts.

That's actually a sequel and not a re-boot right? I remember watching the original when I was a teenager and couldn't quite follow the story line for some reason.

Everyone has a different situation. Because you didn't have any extra money at that point doesn't mean it shouldn't be taught.

Oh, I agree with you. In fact, it probably was taught to me. I knew I should be saving/investing money. Even when I got a "real" job they always talked about putting money into my retirement plan every year.

    I just didn't have any. :D

I know my parents taught me to put money into a savings account....which was decent advice when they taught me....but obviously makes zero sense now.

Kids need to get educated on compound interest and what can happen if you start investing at 18. Show them those charts about how much money they will have in 30 years if they invest 2500 a year for 30 years at an 8% return. So vital and I feel like it's just not something that is taught correctly. It's hard to get an 18 year to buy into that, or understand....but I guess that's up to the teacher and finding ways to get it to sink in.

I had 2 kids and a house by the time I was 21. I didn't have any extra money at that point in my life.

  5. This feels like one of those Facebook posts where everyone complains about all the stuff they did learn/teach in HS but they either didn't pay attention or just forgot.

Things like balancing a checkbook, doing taxes, filling out job applications, buying a house, applying for a loan, maintaining a car, etc...

I learned, or at least was taught, *all* this stuff in HS. Some stuff I learned outside of an actual classroom but I was still HS age. Some stuff I knew the basics of but didn't really "get it" until I had to go through it a few times.

Education is going to be way different IMO for when your grandson goes to college. There probably will be no college as we know it now. Just my opinion as I think we can still have conflicting opinions in America, but the trend I feel will be going to no honors courses in high school and college, even the abolishment of the grade system as it will be deemed everybody deserves the same grade in a futuristic America because some don't' have the inherent advantages of others and it affects their grades. The poor to middle class kids won't be going to college as it will be way way way too expensive (and deemed not worth the $$) and kids will instead work on their own independent careers taking advantage of social media $$ earning platforms, computer related jobs and trying to market themselves. The traditional work week also is probably in jeopardy but that's another issue.

Let's face facts, Tex. Education is going to be way way way different in18 years than it is now. There might not even be any teachers. It might be all self taught. Or robots may revolutionize teaching, again if there is traditional education.  There also are major red flags about the health of future generations and current generations because of infectious disease and potential for more of these. It's just as easy to be pessimistic and say covid is just the start of yearly health criseses rather than optimistic and say this will go away and no more viruses are ever on the horizon.

What are your feelings about the future of education and my predictions here, Tex? Change is coming fast. And nobody can for sure say the current system of college will even exist when your grandson is of that age. Peace, out and may we all be safe!

    Change doesn't happen that fast.

Except for the price, college is pretty much the same now as it was 18 years ago. Or 32 years ago. Or probably 100 years ago...

Remember when we all watched the Jetsons or Back to the Future and thought we'd have robot maids or flying cars by now? LOL

  7. Only vaguely on this subject, my wife's mom passed away in November. They haven't started going through the house yet but she has a lot of "stuff". Mostly a lot of boxes stacked up.

One thing she does have is a complete collection of Danielle Steele novels. All hardcovers at that. Probably paid $20+ for some of them new. Looking up prices on Ebay, they'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 dollars a piece for them.

    Books are weird like that.

Also started The Good Place. First season was spectacular,  but am in season 2 now, and it has lost something with the big reveal.

My wife and I watched that when it was actually on TV. It started out good but did have it's ups and downs. Sometimes it was a struggle to get through and I think they started running out of ideas. The finale was pretty good though.

  9. I've actually fallen behind on my book reading. I've got at least 3 or 4 new books sitting on my shelves that I haven't even started on yet.

Just got "Will" (Will Smith's autobiography) for Christmas. Have had Stephen King's "Billy Summers" on my shelves for a couple of months now.

I also picked up "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" this past summer.

  10. Traditional: Any instrumental version of Carol of the Bells. (credit to Quin)

    Contemporary:

Mary Did You Know - Kenny Rogers & Wynonna Judd

Baby it's cold outside - Barry Manilow & K.T. Oslin

Dan Fogelberg ~ Same Old Lang Syne

Novelty: Way too many. I have a ton of them.

  11. The ones where you sign up for free or reduced price X number of days or weeks or whatever and if you forget to call to cancel that it automatically renews at the "regular" price.

Although calling up and simply threatening to cancel when you just want to get lower price for another 6 months is a common tactic to combat this.

  12. Theft of catalytic converters has been happening for many, many years.

RVs are particularly vulnerable since they typically have a lot of ground clearance and sit in unsecured storage lots for months at a time.

  13. I don't have any more free time now than I ever did before, I've never been one to sit down and watch an entire game start to finish.

I'd check in for a few minutes to see the scores but that was about it. I have the field of dreams game recorded on my DVR and have yet to watch it all.
