Jerry isn't selling while he is alive. He has made that abundantly clear. The capital gains tax hit on selling would be in the neighborhood of 200 million dollars AND that doesn't count what he'd have to pay in Illinois state tax.

He's an incredibly astute business person, he's not stupid enough to want to pay that penalty.

too bad he's stupid at baseball

The trade market mostly didn’t move last offseason for a reason, teams do not give up a prospect fortune in the offseason. There will probably be more moves this year with the weaker FA market, but I think you will be disappointed with the returns given how many guys there are available.

This might change at the trade deadline.

and let's not forget the Sox are bad a trades

We are fans of a habitual losing small market....the team should be renamed Royals East

2024 is gonna suck no matter what.

Therefore, clean house, fill the SS hole with something cheap until Montgomery is ready (same approach at catcher until Quero is ready), try & sign a corner OF who can help you for 3-4 years, develop your young  SP in the minors, and then spend big next winter.

The goal should be to compete in a bad division in '25.

    File that under wishful thinking.

Small market habitual losing fan base syndrome?  Not sure I follow, but ultimately it doesn’t really matter.  Short of Jerry dying or selling the team beforehand, Cease won’t be here come 2026.  What is the point of keeping him until then when there is essentially no hope for the first of two years you have him for?

We have the symptoms and that's the cure.

We like to use the word trade and can't complete any thought after that.

Never keep better players with a hope the replacements will be better, Haven't figured out hauls are the biggest myth in baseball.

We are fans of a budget team that always makes bad choices.  We are no different than the Pirates, A's, I would say the Royals but the Sox are now the Royals. I we need is lot attendants and vendors from the Royals.   Our hope in free agency is similar to those teams.  It's not the same in LA, NY, or even Cubs or even Philiies.  I give the Padres and Mets owers some credit because they got big names.

I often wonder if Veeck still owned the would the Sox be more like the Rays. He knew he couldn't afford players and wanted to invest in scouting.

Which is why you need to trade Cease.  Just a complete waste to waste him on a team with no hope.

The small market habitual losing fanbase syndrome strikes again.   Next up is the Sox/Royals rivalry in the battle for last place.

Clevinger is basically looking for more money in an overpaid market.   It's business.  Some owner will risk giving him more money than Jerry. I'm sure media heads will throw around "culture".

Unless the intention was to save JR money (at that time on Shields' contract), then it worked out perfectly.

They  also would never have extended Tatis, Jr., anyway, just like Luis Robert will be out the door after the 2027 season (likely sooner based on his current trade value.)

Symptoms of the small market habitual losing fanbase syndrome

Trades seem to have a high failure rate in this organization.  I like those idiotic owners who treat it more as a sport than a business.

  7. He's a bottleneck on the bases. He seems like the typical KW pick.

The Sox have a history of trying to develop plays at a position of need.  I still remember them, trying Viciedo and Fields at 3rd. They even put Yermin behind the plate at Charlotte.

Hopefully Getz doesn't work that way.

  8. Younger generations aren't as interested in sports these days.

When I was a kid there was less distractions. We didn't need organized sports.  Houses use to have lots or there were fields to play baseball. Schools didn't resemble penal institutions and you could go shoot hoops on a playground.

If you go by the average number of viewers, it’s obvious that people just don’t care about baseball anymore. I don’t think the playoff formats make any difference.

Some just don't see that reality.  There are 3 other sports going on.  You also have college games.

TV contracts and advertising were already paid for.

There's a lot more to compete when it comes to a person's time for entertainment.

WS appeals to most baseball fans   I don't care for the NFL so I don't remember the last time a I watched a Super Bowl.  There is a difference between being a fan of a team and a fan of a sport.

I'm sure there will be even eyes glued in AZ since the Cardinals suck.

I'd rather be in the Phillies shoes than taking the White Sox approach of misallocated spending and random playoff appearances wishing and hoping on a prayer...

Sox are bad at scouting big league free agents or for some reason free agents don't do well here.    That's when you need to invest in the farm.

Amazing that the concept of having good players on your team gives you a better chance to win than not having good players is controversial or difficult to grasp.

Does spending big guarantee you postseason success? Of course fucking not. No one ever said it does. Stop being deliberately obtuse.

Injuries happen. Cold streaks happen. It's baseball. But if you are arguing against the idea that spending money on good players is worth it because there's a possibility that you might not win the World Series, then have fun with your stars aligning, team of destiny bullshit.

Just maybe baseball is not a predictable sport.

Some of these teams that won 100 games were the result of more bad teams than last year.   Padres, Giants, Cardinals, the whole AL Central, Yankees, Red Sox

I was critical of the Orioles who did little at the deadline despite the fact having an legitimate once in a lifetime opportunity for the majority of their fan base to experience the team winning a World Series. Instead of going for it, Orioles ownership said they will soon blow up the core because they are unwilling to pay for it, and suspended their broadcaster for telling the truth.

The bottom line is there are about 6-8 teams legitimately trying to win each season, and 20 plus teams content with being the Washington Generals and leeching off of revenue generated by the winners (revenue sharing), taxpayers (free stadiums) and cable fees (most customers abandoned MLB over the past three decades, don’t watch).

Jerry has always prioritized fielding a profitable loser, selling carrots to rubes, and privatizing profits / socializing expenses.

Reds conceded and didn't do much.

Is Clevinger that much of a cancer for teams to risk for 2 months?  He was the best pitcher out there on waivers.

What was the Padres excuse for not making the playoffs?  How about the Cubs and about 20 other teams?

Hindsight is 20/20. At the end of the day, under-performance of key pitchers and positions players thought to have had more potential sunk the season....particularly key starters and relievers.   Too few HR was another disappointment. No one has a crystal ball though.

They were predicted to be closer to losing 90 than winning 90.

    Padres is a mystery.
