  1. Joe didn't really turn it on until mid August 2005. Even in July, I heard people saying they should dump him because he couldn't hit. Suddenly, just as the team started to turn south he started to hit. I remember that he had to miss a few games for personal reasons in September which was a real downer because he was the only guy hitting at that point. I still remember that 10th inning walkoff homerun against Cleveland late in the year. He had a great postseason, a great 06 (until he was hurt) and then came back strong. So, keep hope alive for Moncada. As far as Anderson goes, in my book he has proven he is a big-league shortstop defensively and he has the potential to become elite with his offense.
  2. Just saw this. Sorry if its already been discussed. http://sportsmockery.com/2016/12/mlb-insid...cago-white-sox/
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) You hailed? I've been higher on Coats than most, guilty. I think he can make a fine MLB 4th OF. Maybe even a little more, getting platoon or short-term starting time on a non-first-tier or rebuilding team if the opportunity arose. That's my read anyway. He's an odd case in that he doesn't have a single plus tool, except maybe his arm. But he's also no lower than 45 on any tool. Instead of the typical, White Sox "toolsy outfielder" types with 1-3 big tools and 1-2 huge holes in their game, Coats is the opposite. I think it plays, but we'll see. He's got similarities to a RHH Ross Gload type - can hit for average, some power but not at a plus level, doesn't walk much (or enough) but makes regular hard contact with an aggressive approach, line drive swing, has a little speed but nothing special. Gload had a stronger hit tool to be sure, but Coats plays at least average to above average corner OF D, as opposed to Gload being a 1B who can play OF in a pinch. A Gload-like career is Coats' ceiling, but as an OF instead of 1B/DH/PH/occasional OF. No offense, and I'm sure he's a fine young man, but why would we even waste oxygen discussing somebody who is hopefully a Ross Gload? I mean, if I had a son who was a major leaguer like that, I'd be really proud, but frankly I doubt if I'd spend any time touting him on a message board rather than talking about the players who will actually count.
  4. The Indians, having signed Encarnacion are clearly all in (as they should be) and certainly need a starting pitcher. Although trading in your division is not always attractive, the Sox know they're going to stink for two or three years, so by the time they're ready to compete, Q's contract will be nearly over. Their prospect list includes three position players I think would be most attractive in a trade-Zimmer (outfielder) Bradley (1B) and Meja a catcher. Thoughts?
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) 4 posts - 5 years... you're my hero Jim. They haven't been interesting enough to post about in the last 4or 5 years.
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/should-...rts-CQ-RSS-Feed One correction, Q is left handed. Anyway. One of Happ/Baez and Jimenez is a good place to start. Happ, Jimenez, Candelario + would work for me. That guy stole my post from yesterday!
  7. Replying to myself. The first basee prospect I was referring to is actually Ian Happ, who is listed as a second baseman/outfielder. They also have a third-base prospect named Candelaria who is highly regarded, and a couple of really good-looking other outfielders. I would certainly explore those options.
  8. QUOTE (RockfordJim @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) The Sox should be in no hurry to deal Q. If they don't get their deal, they should just be patient. The free-agent market and trade market are thin. They are taking a drastic step , so while they are being bold, they also have to be patient. If their sights are set on Bregman and the Astros' position is they don't want to sacrifice their roster for next year, sweeten the deal with Fraser and see what happens. Similarly, I really hope that their rumored reluctance to deal with the Cubs is not true. The Cubs have already won the World Series, so let's worry about us not them. They have no young pitching prospects who are near ready. They are likely to lose Arieta after next year, they should expect Hendricks to regress a bit and Lackey is nearing the end. They would dearly like a guy like Q, but would have to pay for him. Frankly, if the Sox were to propose something like Q plus one of the big prospects they just got, I don't think a return of Schwarber (who is really an American League player) and a couple of other top prospects would be unwarranted. I know they have an excellent first base prospect who is blocked by Rizzo. So, Schwarber, that first base prospect (who am too lazy to look up) and a couple of other position players would work for me. I may be nuts, but go easy-I haven't posted here for several years and I'm just getting my feet wet!
