  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 5, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Generally speaking, I am ALL for drafting positionless, one tool guys that can hit in the later rounds. I think the hit tool is the most important and that our team has been a case study on it being harder to teach than people want it to be. After about round 4, give me Dan Vogelbachs and the other teams can have the Kennyn Walkers. I asked one of the scouts at the game the other day right after he hit the home run where he thought Tellor would go and said since he is a senior not previously drafted he would probably go after the 15th round just because how the draft is set up with the whole money aspect that I don't know much about. He would be someone a team would draft because they can sign him for less money and try to use more money on guys they are trying to lure away from college or their senior year.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1739372.story Well, I should have expected a Cubs' (former Sox) beat writer to spend 70-75% of his total line space on the Cubs. Well, it's their home games, so have at it. Didn't mention anything about Semien, Erik Johnson (counted to be the 4th starter or possibly 3rd for the next five years) or Davidson. In addition, the improvement of Flowers merits a mention, as well as Dunn (if for nothing else but trade return value). Finally, Conor Gillaspie, when healthy, has been a huge bright spot in the early going, helping to provide more balance to the line-up. Can't read it. Not a "Plus" member
  3. I am one that doesn't care about these advanced stats. I feel like OBP, AVG, RBI, AVG w/ RISP, BB, K, R will pretty much tell you what you want to know about a hitter. OBP is the biggest one for me. If you are getting on base a lot you are giving your team a chance to score.
  4. Glad the Wite So won today
  5. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 4, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) 62 aye That is amazing with 5 K's and 2 BB's in 6 IP
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 4, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) Danish 6.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts, ERA on the year now 0.84 Is it true he only threw 62 pitches? If he can stay healthy, he is going to be good one
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) You're obviously biased and only championing the kid because he goes to your school that hinders your argument from being considered across the board. I wouldn't jump at a kid because he's a switch hitter, it's a nice a additive, but it's not a reason to draft someone. But in the 15th round, who gives a s*** bring him on. If he's having that kind of success you might as well mix him in with the several other project picks. Yeah I am a biased but I am not claiming he should be a top 5 or 10 round pick. But after he would be a great pick up and someone to follow. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) Yeah, I know, Sale came out of a tiny school still known more for basketball, and Pujols an even more lesser-known JC program in Kansas City (Maple Woods). It can happen. Will just have to trust the scouts on his hitting potential. Sometimes it's very hard to determine without top-flight competition and playing year-round, like what happened with everyone overlooking Trout tucked away in New Jersey. There are a lot of great players that come out of smaller schools so I have some hope, I know nobody else has seem him play besides myself but I would rather us draft him then some other team He had another 4 hits today and an RBI. Close to batting .400 on the year now. There were about 4 scouts at the game yesterday and around 5 or 6 there today. I know one of them yesterday was for the Padres and I saw a Mariners and Royals scout there today.
  8. Jose needs to learn to either lay off the slider or hit it or he will never see a fastball again
  9. Another QS for Rienzo. Him and Carroll have been great for this team
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 4, 2014 -> 12:25 PM) Not when it matters I should of rephrased that and asked does he ever hit the ball hard..
  11. Does Danks ever hit the ball
  12. Nice swing by Jose! Need more of that!
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2014 -> 02:12 AM) I would worry about quality of competition with that particular school. We drafted a guy who was at a junior college in the first round last year. There are players drafted out of junior colleges, community colleges, and smaller colleges then Southeast. I know he won't be picked in probably the top 15 rounds, but after I think he will be a great pick up and will be a fun bat to follow.. Not many first basemen our switch hitters who have power from both sides of the plate. Here is what he did in the prospect summer league after his sophomore season: Prospect League Stats
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 4, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Morgan as in Nyjer Morgan? Yes
  15. Harrison Barnes was trying to foul Jordan before JJ hit that 2 point shot but the refs didn't give it to him
  16. Wanted the Warriors to win but it isn't looking good
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 3, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) There is a guy I want us to draft in the later rounds: Matt Tellor out of Southeast Missouri State. He is a senior 1B. Currently batting .380, 14 Home Runs, 59 RBI's, 15 doubles, .659 Slugging %, .435 OBP He is currently top 5 in the nation in both Home Runs and RBI's Oh and he is a switch hitter. I go to the same school as him and have seen him play a lot. The ball jumps off his bat from both sides of the plate. I am going to bump this. I would like to hear opinions.. There were at least 4 scouts at the game today video taping his at bats, 2 of which were home runs batting Right handed.. And he has more power left handed. Both were hit at least 390 feet.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 3, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) Cleto's of no use if he can't throw strikes. Doesn't that apply to everyone?
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 3, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) Book on Abreu now is throw low and outside slider out of zone he will chase it EVERYTIME! Hope everyone enjoyed April scouts have found his weakness. RISP F'N sucks. Especially first pitch. He assumes he will get a fastball down the middle and doesn't even recognize that it isn't even close to the plate
  20. It is easier to get Abreu out then people think.. He simply can not recognize off speed well at all.
  21. Come on Jose, stop swinging at that s***
  22. Good news: Keppinger just hit a home run for AA
  23. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 3, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Ravelo is a guy who doesn't get a lot of attention. I get that hasn't hit homers, but the numbers he's putting up so far are outstanding and he's young for his level. I hope he doesn't turn out to be a Jeff Abbott-type. He has been getting tons of attention by Soxtalk
  24. Thanks Scott for giving us another good outing. Sorry the defense sucks and we can't hit anymore
