  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) This sounds like a late excuse to being one of the worst players in MLB. If I were him, I would do the same to try and salvage my soon to be over major league career. It was never played up much in articles, but his shoulder "barking" has been mentioned off and on throughout the season by Ventura and Parent (especially when Phegley was called up). This isn't something that just sprung up out of nowhere, it's been an issue all year. I feel like Robin's playing a little defense now that he got questions about it. I don't understand why some people just have it out for the guy. Some of you seem to be actively rooting for him to fail.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Well that explains the two catchers getting called up. I wonder how long it has been bothering him? Originally tweaked a year ago, and it's slowly gotten worse. From what I understand, it's been bothering him most of the season.
  3. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) Nobody wants to say it, but Phegley sucks. I hate his swing. I have no problem saying it.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Is Viciedo going to be healthy enough to play tonight? Wells has played for him the last 2 games since he jammed his thumb, right? If he's a DL candidate then this could in fact open up a slot for Garcia for 2 weeks. He played last night. Also, no game tonight, although I'm thinking you knew that and mis-typed.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:24 PM) I don't want to over-react, but I like what I see in Phegley. I loved after today's victory over Detroit he stood out on the field and greeted every Sox player as they ran past him toward the dugout. I'm thinking out of all our players, he at least acts like he cares more than anybody else. Some of you don't care about intangibles ... I like his intangibles. Now for his performance. He has four hits in 20 at bats. Three have been home runs. Today's homer won a game. Now an optimist could love his eight RBIs. A pessimist could be bummed by his six strikeouts against no walks and say he's just another lift and pull member of the White Sox (albeit it's just 20 at bats). At the risk of your wrath (people are going to get all mad and say we're talking about 20 measly at bats), I want to ask you ... Is Josh Phegley going to be a stud?? Or another lift and pull .210 type hitter? I like Hawk's comparison to Brian Downing. I like Phegley. Do you?? So far, he's looked good. I think there's guarded optimism since we're working on less than a week's worth of games. He looked really bad Tuesday (0-5, 2 three-pitch SO's that I remember, 2 passed balls), and is only batting .200 overall, but so far his hits have added spark (and in yesterday's case, like you said, it was the difference in the game). I think there's a few things to watch: ( a) how he does handling the grind of catching in the bigs 4-5 days a week ( b) how his offense is affected once pitchers get more data on him ( c) if he starts slumping, how he handles not being the toast of the town anymore I personally think ( c) will be the most interesting. It's easy to have a great attitude and be high-fiving your teammates when you're on top of the world. But if reality sets in and he begins to cool off, how he reacts to that will tell you what kind of player/teammate he is. I think we've seen the everyday pressure and fan negativity affect Flowers this year more than most people realize (although I think no matter what, Phegley will have a longer leash with fans because he's a rookie).
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) I'm sure he plays in the day game tomorrow This. He was never going to play in all 3. I'm a little surprised as that means he'll catch Sale tomorrow. I thought RV would save Tyler for that game.
  7. Guessing Flowers is up tonight because Sale is pitching? Sale has only pitched to him this season, right?
  8. Member No.: 1,677 QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) * It would be great if they could dump Flowers sometime in the next month. With the Sox out of it and teams starting to make moves., I don't see why they don't DFA Gimenez and bring up Phegley. Congrats but didn't everyone see this one coming? We all expected Phegley to come up and challenge, right?
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 02:10 AM) But that's not the purpose of this thread. It is to blast Sox management for a horrible, horrible decision to go with Flowers, not to perpetuate the AJ legend. Hearing the ESPN announcers praise AJ and looking at his stats brought this to the surface. It pissed me off thinking of Flowers/all these unnecessary losses. Two serious questions: how many losses do you think are a direct result of Flowers' poor defensive play? I know of a few games off the top of my head he's actually helped WIN for the Sox so I'd like to understand why you make it sound like he's the main reason for the Sox's demise this season. Pitching is doing it's job mostly and from what I understand the staff likes how he manages them. Second question: what was A.J. like stat-wise when he finally got his chance as a starter? What's the norm for catchers? (OK maybe that's 3 questions) I'm seriously asking these because I don't know the answers, not because I necessarily am trying to prove you wrong. I haven't read this whole thread yet but I'm seeing errors and poor play all over the field and yet keep seeing people continue to act like one person is responsible for the majority of it. My gut is that unless he was hitting .300+ and had no errors that he was never going to get away from these AJ comparisons.
