Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) Phantasytour, someone on one of the boards has that same username and is a Sox and Cardinals fan This is the only non-Cardinal board I frequent. I wish Bucket would check in because he may know something from the White Sox side. Like I said, this could mean nothing but the promotion of Mateo is very curious. If Wong is staying in Memphis, there would be nowhere for Mateo to play making the promotion strange. I already said that Wong is not coming to St. Louis because there is nowhere for him to play there, either. Wong always seemed like the most obvious prospect to build a trade around given that the Cardinals have Carpenter at 2B. I can eliminate the Astros (Norris) as a trade partner because they have a 2B that they just extended. My mind is racing because I can't really understand this sequence of events. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 07:48 PM) No other teams were willing to give up that much for a rental is what it really is. As Heyman said this morning...more teams like the extra year than the rental player I don't know what this means or if it means anything but the Cardinals promoted a 2B late today to AAA Memphis. His name is Luis Mateo. In addition, Kolten Wong, who is always in the lineup, is not playing tonight. I can asure you that Wong is not coming to STL with the year Carpenter is having. This is just a little strange. Since I am a Cardinals fan hanging on this board, I just thought you folks would appreciate the heads up. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) DBacks were there but Rosenthal said.they weren't looking at Peavy which I highly doubt I read somewhere today that Towers said that the DBacks can't or won't take on any new payroll. If the DBacks weren't there for Peavy, I would assume they were there for Lindstrom? They have had their share of bullpen issues. If it really turns out that the Yanks, Orioles, Red Sox, and Cards were the ones there for Peavy, how do you guys think that this will play out? -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) Any new rumors out there? I have no new rumors because the Cardinals (my team) are as tight-lipped as the White Sox front office. You guys at least have Bucket so you get more than most message boards. You guys have a lot of message space taken up with Arizona and I don't blame you. They have a nice farm system. I got some information today that I think bears on this thread's subject. At Last night's White Sox game, the scouts present were from the Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox, and Cardinals. Apparently absent were the DBacks. What any of this means, I have no idea. Just an FYI. -

The Texas deal was supposedly Garza and Russell. It was a 4 for 2 deal. I definitely could see the Cardinals being interested in Peavy. My guess is that it would take Wong to headline the deal and I could see Ryan Jackson (ss) and Mark Rcepzynski (rp) plus someone like Tyler Lyons (sp) also icluded. If the White Sox like Cory Jones (sp) better, I coud see that, also. Since the White Sox like toolsy OFers, maybe Anthony Garcia would be of interest. I am just spitballing here. The Cardinals did scout Peavy last nght, FWIW. By the way, the DBacks GM has said publically that they can't take on any money. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) I think with his basically having no attention span, he would get way better instantly if he went to a contender. Just curious ................... who is "Bucket"?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) The Asdrubal Cabrera thing is confusing to me because the Indians are totally in contention right now. But yeah, I hear people talking about it too. What I fugure is that the Indians have Aviles and Lindor coming (just promoted to AA). If the Indians wait too long, they will end up trading Cabrera for pennies on the dollar. The Indians also need pitching if they are going to be truly competitive in the 2nd half. The Cardinals have the pitching to give but they are not close to meeting the Indians asking price. Every team the Cardinals speak to probably wants either Wacha, Martinez, or Wong. I don't see Wacha or Martinez being traded so it will probably come down to the deadline bfore anything is resolved for the Cardinals and their upgrade at SS.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) I predict Alexei ends up with the Cardinals and we get next to nothing back. Just a feeling. As a Cardinal fan, I hope you are correct. I would love for the Cardinals to get Ramirez but I don't even get the sense that it is being discussed. I have seen some rumors about Asdrubal Cabrera but none connecting Ramirez and the Cardinals. As to your second point, any trade this time of year will be somewhat costly. If the Cardinals and White Sox do ever trade, the cost will be partially determined by how much of the Ramirez salary the Cardinals are willing to assume.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) It depends. I wouldn't trade Rios and Ramirez for example. That would be quite a haul and most teams would be unwilling to give up for both. Same goes for Peavy. Sox might be able to extend the value of a deal by adding Lindstrom or De Aza in a deal with one of the position players. Crain is another guy. With Crain's injury, it is possible he'd be packaged. If Pittsburgh wanted Rios, they may like Crain as well giving them the best bullpen in NL and upping the ante as far as prospects the White Sox could receive. A Cardinal fan here: I am suprised that Thornton has been the only White Sox player traded but I guess after the AS break, we will see more action. I read somewhere that Schierholtz from the Cubs is more likely to be traded to the Pirates because they could platoon him with Tabata and the financial cost would be considerably less. Don't know the specifics on salaries of both players but it sounds reasonable. Cardinal fans have been distracted by the Asdrubal Cabrera rumors recently but this Cards fan likes Ramirez better but my opinion doesn't count. I am still willing to trade Wong for Ramirez but apparently, I hold the minority opinion. Hopefully, Ramirez to the Cardinals rumors pick up some steam.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:24 AM) Mike here is what I will say. Taveras or all of the high level young pitching is an unrealistic return for Alexei. However, If I were Rick Hahn I would be asking for Matt Adams. I would probably take a deal built around Wong and another mid level prospect or 2 but that deal would take until the deadline. Adams is the type of guy that White Sox need to acquire in these deals. That may be too steep for St. Louis but that's what I'd ask for. Thanks for the responses. Frankly, I would ask for Adams, also. Adams fits very well with the Cardinals and that is especially true if the team lets Beltran walk after this season. Adams would get 1B and Craig would go to RF. I think Wong is someone who the White Sox could get. I also agree that it is a deal that would come near the deadline. I am going to suggest that Wong + Cory Jones (if the Cards would trade him) might get this done.

Cardinal fan, again. Buster Olney tweeted yesterday that the Cardinals and Indians were again discussing Asdrubal Cabrera. While I am sure that such discussions have taken place, I think the results will be like last winter. The Indians still want one of the Cardinal good young pitchers - Wacha, Miller, Rosenthal, or Martinez - and I am pretty sure the Cardinals will not do that. All roads lead back to the White Sox, IMO. The question is what Hahn would want in return? I have tried to play GM with my neighbor who is a lifelong White Sox fan. Nothing that I have suggested pleases him so I feel for Mozeliak - Hahn. I did think that the White Sox would have gotten slightly more for Thornton so now I am really confused. I have thought that Wong + one (lower level) should do it but no according to my neighbor. What say all of you?

Cardinals fan here. I have enjoyed reading this thread and learning of all your insights into a potential Ramirez trade to the Cardinals. I suspect that the Cardinals have interest in Ramirez but I am unsure if the Cardinals GM (Mozeliak) will pay the pereived price. One question that I have for you is whether the White Sox would have to get a SS in return from any trade of Ramirez? If the answer is yes, then the Cardinals two choices would be Kozma or Jackson (Ryan)/AAA Memphis. I am not a GM but would this cause Hahn to pull the trigger: Wong Kozma or Jackson one additional prospect (probably on the pitching side)
