  1. Maybe the Cardinals and White Sox really are just talking about Alexi Ramirez. Color me surprised. https://twitter.com/JimBowdenESPNxm/status/...172723428790272
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Heyman and Rosenthal are usually the most accurate, but that isn't necessarily a high threshold. Rosenthal is the best and Heyman isn't bad except he is always a whore for Boras.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) I like Adams and the two relievers are decent, but in this scenario, Garcia is going to be your low level prospect and at least one more prospect closer to the majors is going to have to come to the table. Essentially, by the end of next season, that deal could become Adams, Garcia, and low level prospect for one of the most valuable trade chips. Kozma is a JAG, regardless of his defense. The Sox may as well go back to Tyler Greene, who you are all too familiar with. If Ramirez is included, you are adding another legitimately good player to the mix. Really, if you want to talk about Peavy, Crain, AND Ramirez, the package is starting out with Adams, Martinez, and Wong, and more would be needed on top of that. If you want to get creative, Gillaspie and Freese can be swapped too. The Cards are just a tough match for how many pieces that can add, but it's certainly possible. I totally agree that three WS pieces is too much for the Cardinals to cover. The OP asked me specifically about Peavy and Crain and I had never really given thought to him. I still think if there is a deal, it would be Peavy by himself or Peavy plus Ramirez. The latter is really tough also because that is a lot of salary to take on. I have difficulty believing that the Cardinals ownership would do that. One of them, yes; two, doubtful.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) I don't see that trade working because the Sox don't need pitching prospects. They need hitting prospects. In a package of Peavy and Crain, I would look at a trade involving Adams, Ramsey, Carson Kelly, and 2 lower level prospects The WS would definitely not get Ramsay and Kelly and I kinda think that Kelly is untouchable. I could see Piscotty, maybe.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) Mike, you're a Cardinals fan, what would you give up for Peavy or Peavy and Crain? Well, I have given Peavy a lot of thought but Crain has not been part of my thinking. This will be a little long but stick with me. I value what Beltran could mean as a mentor to Oscar Taveras next year so if the Cardinals keep Beltran then there is no room for Adams going forward. So, I am not in the camp that would not want to deny Adams a career as a starting 1B. I also think that Craig is a better 1B than an OFer so I orefer him to Adams going forward. It would be awfully hard to cash in on Adams but because the team is built again to win this year. If you are built to win, you should go for it. Assuming that the White Sox share some of Peavy's salary, I would be willing to build a deal around Adams. I am thinking out loud here but, maybe, this for Peavy and Crain: Matt Adams Anthony Garcia Mark Rzepczynski Fernando Salas Low level pospect If we are doing Ramirez as part of it, I add Kozma The reason Salas and "Scrabble" , as Cardinal fans call him, are included is that I don't believe the White Sox are in 100%rebuild mode and getting two veteran but low cost relievers would be helpful going forward. Of course, you could design multiple trade scenarios and this is just one of an infinite number of them. Please feel free to fire away.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Just saw Dan Hayes retweet a Boston writer saying that Boston can add payroll but doesn't want to give up future. I read this and I'm thinking to myself, why even bother Boston? Have to give up something to get something especially Peavy and/or Crain. Or this could just be a bluff. It is going to be the Cardinals; I just feel it Oh, by the way, the White Sox have had multiple scouts at all the games of the Cardinals home stand.
  7. Cardinals GM Mozeliak just said "that no such offer was made" referring, of course, to the Martinez - Ramirez rumor. Now, the Cardinals GM chooses his words carefully. Interpreting, Mozeliak just said that it wasn't a two player offer.
  8. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 05:39 AM) If Jake to the Red Sox has legs, then either Jackie Bradley or Cecchini should be involved. If you get one of those two, the rest of the package are details. Important details nonetheless. But if the headliner is agreed to, then the filler is also something that can be worked out. I can easily see a deal with Boston come soon after Thurs. if Peavy has another strong outing. I think Hahn has effectively started a bidding war between the Cardinals and Red Sox.
  9. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 05:09 AM) There's probably more to this and don't have an immediate positive or negative reaction. Still, Alexei is one of the hardest players to replace. ESP. If the sox believe they can compete in2014. I'd expect Alexei to be one of the last players traded, not one of the first, after we see what prospects the sox get for Peavy, Crain, Lindstrom, Rios, De Aza. Maybe they'd trade Alexei if the sox acquired a replacement for him. Or Pitt already had a better offer on the table. Too many unknowns. The key word at MLBTR is "involving". The White Sox turned down a trade "involving" Ramirez and Martinez. I feel very confident that te Cardinals wanted Ramirez and Peavy and offered Martinez among others.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) Any idea who we would be focused on there? Does the rumor that I posted this afternoon (heard on a Chicago radio station) have any merit? It is back two or three pages. Thanks. Hell, I meant this for Bucket!
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) I hope you stick around a bit after the trade deadline:) Thanks, I might do that. You've got a good board here.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) LOL this is hilarious. But this is what I like. Scouting the Cards hard. Give me Wong, Joe Kelly, and Adams and I'll be happy. Actually, that was my word. The Cardinal anouncers gave his name and then went on to talk about his career and I took it from that that he was "prominent". My bad!
  13. FYI. It was mentioned on the TV broadcast of the Cards - Phillies game that a prominent White Sox scout is at tonight's game.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) Well, he said it was a Fox sports station. We only have a CBS one and an ESPN one, as far as I know. I am the "he" and I was quoting the poster over at Cards Talk. P.S. Can anyone on the board get Bucket to attest to how true this is and, if so, how close it might be?
  15. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 05:41 PM) I did not know how good of a 1B he is, but that is good to know he can actually provide value on the field as well. Adams has very good lateral movement to both sides. He fields the position quite well; surprisingly well. His only issue on defense and I think it comes from lack of playing time is that sometimes he goes to try to get a groundball to his right and Carpenter would get it it. In those cases, the pitcher has to cover when Adams can't get back to the bag. Other than that, he has been just fine. It is also important to remember that STL has a groundball oriented staff so he wouldn't play if his "D" was a problem.
  16. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) Eh, he strikes me as the fat kid who knows how to hit. I view him as a taller and left handed Billy Butler. He is a damn good 1B, too.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) What are your thoughts on Freese? I didn't realize he was 30 already. The problem with trading Freese is his local popularity and his clubhouse leadership. It would probably be a PR nightmare. Also, as someone said above, that would be a lot of disruption to the current lineup. If I was the GM, I would be happy to substitute Valera or Piscotty (both mentioned above) or Patrick Wisdom, a 3B from the 2012 draft. I guess we know now that the clubs are talking/negotiating.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) Interesting...if that is true, it shows that we really aren't looking at a long rebuilding process here It also appears to show that my Cardinals are willing to trade Adams, which I thought was not going to happen.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) I would hope the Sox could do better or something more tapered to our needs.. The more I look at this, I don't see much on the Cubs end. ONe former top prospect who looks like he may be a bust (but he may not be), a #5 starter with a #4 ceiling (something the Sox don't need) , an interesting A ball pitcher, and then a couple of more likely A ball pitchers. That's really not what the Sox need. OK, guys, we have news or at least a rumor of news. On a Cardinals board (associated with the Post Dispatch), someone just posted that the WS want Adams, Freese, and Joe Kelly for Ramirez and Peavy. Supposedly, this was just mentioned on a Chicago sports talk radio station. The hang-up apparently is Freese, who the Cardinals don't want to trade. Take it for what it's worth. P.S. Supposedly, it is a FOX affiliated station.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Hell I had a Cardinals fan tell me they wouldnt give up even Wong for Peavy and we should prepare to be gravely disappointed in the return for Peavy. That talk just makes me laugh. If we arent getting the value we want for Peavy then keep him. We have the leverage here. All signs point to Wong, at least for me. He is a top 50 prospect so he is not chopped liver. I've got a lot of names that could also be included but it impossible to list all of them. I have even gone as far to think that Freese might be included but I don't really think so. Here are some of the names that I think are possible: Lyons, Cooney, Whiting, Fornataro, Valera, Ramsay, Piscotty, Wisdon, Tilson, Blair, Swaggerty, and Cody Jones.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) I wonder if a package of Martinez Wong and another player for Peavy would be good.enough? I think it would get a deal done but I don't think Mozeliak will surender any of Miller, Wacha, or Martinez. I know that is not what White Sox fans want to hear but that is what I beleive. I think Wong could be the headliner. I do think Tyler Lyons could also be part of it. He is a very nice starter. I could see one of Piscotty or Ramsay being included and, finally, someone like Sam Freeman. There is also Ryan Jackson or Greg Garcia if the White Sox are so inclined. I really don't know how to play GM! I do think the Cardinals would take all of next year's salary and most of the remaing this year.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) I don't think Alexei is a good fit with Boston, at all "Cards emerge as darkhorse for Peavy" is the bottom line ticker on MLB show "The Rundown". I mentioned that last night, Wong was not in the Memphis lineup or the night before and there is no injury. That was in addition to the Cards promoting a AA 2B to Memphis and a Hi-A 2B to Springfield. I felt last night and I feel today that something is happening althought I am not sure of what.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) While all of this is true at a high level, starting pitching is always in demand at the trade deadline. Peavy represents the best starter available and by a large margin. There will definitely be teams looking to acquire him and doing so aggresively. Whether or not those teams are willing to give up a package like the one for Garza remains to be seen. Sometimes the first team to sell gets the most because they have more suitors. It's going to be an interesting nine days. I don't know what the protocol is on this board for posting links but this one bears on the subject at hand and one that I am interested in since I am a Cardinal and Peavy fan. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...l-peavy-suitors
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) Still feel Peavy is best suited for Red Sox or DBacks My neighbor is a White Sox fan and I told him tonight that I thought Peavy would be traded to the Red Sox. Such a deal would not surprise me at all. However, I have thought for a few weeks that the Cardinals would have interest in Ramirez and Crain and I could definitely see Wong being part of that.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 08:38 PM) I read Wong's missed a few games now, so any chance he's just banged up and they'll demote Mateo in a few days? Well, I guess that is possible but the Cardinals also promoted another 2B from Hi-A to Springfield (AA) to take Mateo's place. The promoted player is a bonafide prospect named Colin Walsh. Also, Mateo has nearly 200 ABs this season at Springfield so he plays often. As a Cardinal fan, this is a very strange sequence of events and a sequence that doesn't fit the Cardinals profile. Everyone here seems to think the target is Peavy but I think it could also be Ramirez and Crain.
