  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 01:08 AM)
    Sanchez is now into positive WAR territory. He's absolutely earned the starting role at 2B headed into spring. If the ORG can bring in someone on the cheap that is a 4 WAR player well hell in that case forget Sanchez, but when that doesn't happen, start him. He's earned it.

    If he was more highly touted we'd be ecstatic about a slick fielding 23 year old 2B that seems to have a little pop in his bat as well. He's never gonna hit more than 270/320/400 but with his glove at 2B that's an above average starter in today's game.

    .270 is good but he could also be .230 ish

  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 10:56 AM)
    Add Erik Johnson to the list. Assuming we lose Shark, we're most likely counting on Johnson to fill the #4 spot next year. It would be nice to give him an extended look in a lost season and be a bit more confident in counting on him for 2016.

    I agree as well but the production in September is still tainted by the level of play of some teams. Boston comes into Chicago this week and they have unlaoded their AAA roster into the majors. You will certainly need a scorecard.

    I have been pushing for a few months that the White Sox should trade Q to Boston for one of the young catchers ( Swihart), one of the young outfielders (Bradley) + a young pitcher. But w Dombrowski's arrival, I think that ship has sailed. Rumors are he will go after Price in the offseason.

  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 10:53 PM)
    Where do you guys get the idea that Sanchez is slow? Just because he doesn't steal bases doesn't mean he doesn't have any speed.

    It is not he doesn't have speed. But only having 3 doubles in 150+ plate appearances is incredibly low. Compare that to Sanchez w 20 in 280+. Could be a sign that Saladino is not hitting gaps w his hits or he is very slow out of the box.

  4. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 01:46 PM)
    On some level, Saladino could be the "good, young 3B" you want us to trade for, one that we won't have to trade Q for. As you mentioned, at least the D is there, and the bat has some potential, and we know he's got good speed on the base paths. Personally, I'd like to give him at least half a season more at 3B before moving him to a utility role. The other issue is there is virtually no other "good, young 3B" available for trade who isn't an all star caliber player. Moustakas, Duffy, Bryant, and Seager fit the criteria, but those teams aren't looking to trade them.

    We do??? Saladino in 153 AB has 2 doubles. To put that in contrast, Sanchez in 286 AB has 20. Boni ( 78) and Beckham ( 181) each have 8. So Saladino is strictly a singles hitter since he is getting some singles but is not able to turn them into doubles.

  5. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 09:23 AM)
    Why does everyone want to trade Quintana? It doesn't make sense unless you're getting a guy like Frazier our Arenado in return, and even then, Q should be pretty much the entire package. His value is insane, and a package that was suggested earlier in this thread for just Arenado (which included Montas, Micah Johnson, and Adams) should, in addition to someone like Arenado, net the team a young, proven 125+ wRC+ catcher with great defense.

    If we're not getting something worth 5+ WAR and cost controlled for Q, then why not keep the trio of cost controlled lefties that are likely to produce 15-18 WAR at the top of the rotation for the next 4+ years? You get two decent starters behind that, and you have the potential for a 20-25 WAR rotation, which is a playoff rotation with even a decent bullpen and offense.

    This year the cost controlled trio of lefties has a good bullpen, a lousy offense and they are 24-22 this year. You can keep them but you have to find a way to add 2-3 pieces to the offense. Unfortunately the chance to add one piece for Shark didn't happen. So you trade Q and should get 2 pieces in return or you gamble and trade a few minor league pieces and hope you hit on 2 pieces in return. Or you use 2016 as a wait and see on the young players and continue to be a .500 team

  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 12:46 AM)
    With this rotation? Absolutely. I feel like the Sox are a team that could easily win the World Series, but they aren't good enough to make the playoffs. If that makes sense.

    I agree. If they just made the playoffs and every tam they played got caught deflating the baseballs they could win it all.

  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 01:24 PM)
    Still too weak of an offense in my opinion if you have Saladino, Sanchez and Anderson at 2b-3b. To me, the ideal scenario is Anderson at SS, Sanchez at 2B, Saladino the utility player and Johnson traded. 3B will have to come from outside the org.

    No, I said if Anderson showed some powerbut the glove was a problem, perhaps he could be a 3B candidate. If 2B and SS have no power, 3B has to.

  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 06:51 PM)
    He has a pretty live bat. I think we'll see the power come.

    I think the question w Anderson is his fielding progression at SS. At some point soon, the FO needs to decide what his future position is. We do not want another 2nd baseman. If he develops some power and SS does not work out at least 3B could be a fall back. The young players in the organization at 2B should be adequate.

  9. QUOTE (staxx @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 09:37 AM)
    Lifetime milb .288 hitter and improved each time he was promoted after getting the hang of it.

    He could very well be a .265-.275 hitter in the bigs.

    He could which w his glove would be great. But he also may be in competition w Micah and Saladino for the 2B job next spring. Hopefully the Sox upgrade 3B and SS or use Saladino as a placeholder at SS.

  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 04:47 AM)
    Excellent post. It was a very bad decision as it turned out to go with the sieve Micah over vaccuum Sanchez.

    Actually I think the problem was they had Saladino, Sanchez, Davidson and Johnson all needing a year in AAA but only 3 positions. Maybe the front office figured the offense was questionable coming out of the spring and so they went w the offensive option in Johnson. Or they actually thought Johnson could play in the majors at that point since they also were questionable at 3rd in the spring. Either way, they started the year w some serious infield holes

  11. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 08:03 PM)
    I'd be willing to take that risk of gambling with two slots in our 2016 rotation if we can further develop Fulmer and Montas in preparation for 2017. It would be the most intelligent move made by the organization in years. Sale/Rodon/Danks/Johnson/Whomever won't win any titles, but having Quintana and a similar lineup as this season won't either.

    Quintana almost has to go. I'd be disappointed if he remained for another season, which lets be honest -- 2016 will more than likely be another mediocre season. We should all be estatic to be trading from a position of strength. If Quintana could land us one quality ML player and one top ten offensive prospect, I'd jump all over it. By the time either Fulmer or Montas (perhaps both) are ready we could have one hell of a rotation in 2017. We'd just have to be willing to throw caution to 2016, which I know many on here will make excuses to explain why it would never happen

    I actually think Q could bring back 2 quality ML players

  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 03:14 PM)
    One on my sources: "Robin is going nowhere" and "Kenny and Hahn's differences in opinion towards operations is holding back the organization."

    A bartender just told me that JR told him that KW is gone, Hahn will move up, Robin becomes GM and Ozzie will become manager.

  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 07:23 PM)
    What would take Q?

    Henley Ramirez, who the Bosox overpaid when he was available as a Free Agent?

    Get real. It would take taking his contract and a bag of balls.

    The hero worship of decent hitters in their 30s is beyond belief.

    No wonder the Sox keep acquiring these stiffs...just doing the bidding of much of the fanbase.

    You can see the irrationality when people discuss Avi (a problem) v. Melky (doing well) when the reality is they're hitting about the same (and the "problem" is young, cheap and could improve).

    The Sox need to find a C, 3B, 2b, SS, and OF. They don't need to fill all of those to contend, just 3 or 4. If they can't find a 3B, stick with Saladino. in the meantime, give the in-house young players a chance. it may take trading Q; it may take trading someone like Eaton for a young 3b. But what won't solve it is getting a bunch of Henleys, Melkys or Laroches.

    We traded for a young 3B and he is struggling at AAA, It isn't getting young players or older players. It really comes down to getting the right players. Nelson Cruz and Kendry Morales are older players who are having really good years on their new teams.

  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 06:13 PM)
    I too disagree with Balta although I understand his point. Semien wasn't going to be anything special, Phegley is a backup catcher. Bassit is solid but wont be anything more than a back end starter. It was worth the shot. You gota take chances and sometimes they work sometimes they do not. I hope they take some more this offseason. This team needs a jolt. I want to see a new coaching staff and add Puig in the offseason.

    Actually I think you are giving the front office too much credit. Did they think Semien wasn't going to be anything special but thought Micah was?? You say Phegley is a backup which he may be on many teams. But he also may be a starter over Flowers based on their performance this year. I want a new front office which probably would result in a new coaching staff. I feel less confident now that the people assembling a better team can really judge talent. They left spring training thinking 2B and 3B was acceptable??? They thought a bench of Shuck, Boni, Gordon and Soto was acceptable considering the talent available in Charlotte? I think this was a .500 team on paper that is struggling to meet that due to poor seasons by a few key guys. But they also got lucky on the injury side.

  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 04:50 AM)
    Sox need of offensive upgrades wherever we can get them and particularly at 3rd. But there are no good free agent options unless maybe Ben Zobrist could be an everyday 3rd basemen despite having only ever played 6 games there. The other problem with bidding on Zobrist is that literally every single team could use him somewhere.

    Red Sox have 1 million outfielders and both Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez signed for multiple years. Ramirez has been completely brutal in the outfield and I can't imagine a scenario where they start next year with him as left fielder again. Sandoval has been brutal defensively at third, subpar with the bat, and has an additional year on his contract. He's presumably a lot harder to move unless they eat some of that salary (yes those were fat jokes).

    Red Sox need pitching, we've got arms in the minors. They should be motivated by the fact that they're paying Ramirez a lot of money to make them a worse team than with Bradley Jr. in the outfield. $68 million is a lot and maybe they'd kick in $$, but I don't see too many other avenues for White Sox to make a significant offensive improvement unless you're talking about a complicated overhaul with multiple trades. Perhaps something structured around Eric Johnson? Call me crazy. Do your worst.

    They would want a major league arm not Johnson. They have a bunch of Johnson types. My gut is it would take Q and I would rather have a younger player w more versatility in the field than Ramirez. I have posted several times I would want Bradley and a young catcher + for Q

  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 12:20 AM)
    Abreu is a terrible fielder.

    Living in New England, I was estatic when the White Sox got Abreu instead of the Red Sox. I remember reading the Red Sox stopped at $50 mil because they felt Abreu was eventually only going to be a DH and they figured Ortiz still had a few years left in the tank. He is certainly a gifted offensive player, but I hope the White Sox knew going in that he would struggle in the field. Hopefully when the sox dump LaRoche, they move Abreu to DH age withstanding.
