  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:19 AM)
    I value Meadows considerably higher than Bell because he can play center field (at a plus graded level). That is more valuable than a first baseman/DH.

    Trust me, I'm right there with you but seems like Meadows isn't a realistic option.

    FWIW, a Pirates ESPN guy suggested a Glasnow/Keller, Bell & Newman deal with another lower level piece or two.

    Thoughts on this?

  2. I think a realistic package has to start around one of Meadows/Bell.

    Obviously, Medows is much more enticing but I also think he's much more unrealistic.

    Would everyone be happy with a package of Bell, Newman, Keller & lower level guy? That's 3 top 100 guys & a throw in like with Boston. The caliber of prospects isn't as high as the Sale deal but there's a bit more depth to this one.

  3. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 09:13 PM)
    I'd rather deal with Houston if that's the best they can offer, unless they add a very worthwhile fourth player. Reed/Tucker/Martes/Stubbs is still my preferred package.

    Also, if Andrew Miller, who isn't even a closer, can net Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, and more, and Aroldis Chapman can net Gleyber Torres as part of a four player package, then Robertson is worth more than that.

    Although I like the Astros top end package, getting Rodgers would be bigger than Tucker/Martes combined.

    Also, you can't honestly think that David Robertson is worth more than Andrew Miller, right?

    Robertson is coming off a down year with a much higher walk rate than his career average. Andrew Miller is one of the best pen arms in the game... Robertson doesn't even come close to that.

  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 07:13 AM)
    I do think Musgrove is the hang up. I also think Q winds up in Houston for Martes, Tucker and others.

    I wonder if the hang up was multiple things. Everything I've read has said Tucker is "untouchable" too. If it's me, I go Martes, Tucker, Reed & a throw in like Stubbs. May be asking too much but the first two are musts.

  5. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:33 AM)
    Not sure if it was posted but baseball tonight suggested a trade:

    Houston gets: Q

    Sox get: Martes, Reed, Daz Cameron

    They went around the table and said who says no and everyone agreed it's was a perfect trade. I know everyone wants Tucker but would you be okay with this? They said Martes is the best prospect so we would get another top prospect plus Reed and Cameron (who's Mike Cameron's son).

    f*** no. Not nearly enough upside talent coming back to the Sox. Switch out Cameron for Fisher & add Stubbs & they may be onto something but both of those bats have a huge risk potential involved & that's not something the Sox should remotely consider.

  6. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:19 AM)
    how about Robertson for Robles + Fedde?

    Even for as awful of a trade as the Nats made yesterday, this would never happen in a million years.

    Robertson likely brings back someone like Kieboom/Stevenson & maybe Severino. They won't give up their best 2 remaining prospects to get Robertson, though. He's not worth that, anyways.

  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:48 AM)
    So we just traded Sale for aobut half the guys people wanted.

    Take your Quintana trades and halve them, and add a deeply flawed bullpen pitcher.

    The flaw I see in this logic is that we as fans thought they'd get A bigger haul, which obviously proved to be unrealistic. The difference is, I haven't seen one knowledgeable analyst anywhere that says the Sox got shorted/got the bad end of this deal.

    Sure, maybe we should lower our expectations but to simply hold on to Quintana because they don't get exactly what fans expected seems a bit counterproductive for a rebuilding team that likely won't compete for 2-3 years.

    Also, this is not an attack on you. I've just been seeing this type of thing a lot since the Sale trade.

  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:10 AM)
    I need Devers and ERod as well.

    Sox likely won't get both Moncada & Devers according to Rosenthal yesterday on the MLB Network.

    Would imagine a package for sale based around this rumor would be something like Moncada, Kopech, Basabe, Swihart & either a low level bat or pitcher, which frankly seems somewhat light. I liked Travis but that's gone now.

    If it's me, I make the deal with Nats for Sale & turn Q into something similar I posted about.

  9. So the Sox would need a CF, C, DH & another solid pen arm or two to truly compete for a playoff spot.

    Looking at the FA market, it's s***. There's really no way around that. If they are going to go out & make moves, they are going to be forced to either trade the top end of their farm system or forego at least one of two of their draft picks, which either scenario makes it really hard to build for the future.

    If they were to trade off, they could load up that farm system pretty quickly by dealing players like Sale, Quintana, Jones, Abreu, Melky, Robertson, etc.

    On paper, they have a decently solid team with a few holes, so does it really hurt them to make a few moves & go for it again one more time & deal at the break if they aren't in it? I'd say no but going back to adding players, you can't really do that unless you hurt the farm system.

    If you trade off a key piece or two, does that give you enough to sit back for a year & compete in 2018? I'm not sure about that either.

    Really what it comes down to is that the Sox are in a "safer" position to play the middle again by signing a few guys to plug holes by not giving up any picks or prospects. It's a much larger risk if you go "all in" like they did the past two years or sell it all, especially in the latter scenario with the Cubs just winning a World Series and putting a sizable amount of pressure on the Sox to actually make themselves relevant again.

    All in all, this is just me rambling but curious to get other's thoughts on what direction this team will actually go in.

  10. "We'd like to announce that we have extended Robin Ventura 3 years and Rick Hahn will be moving on from the organization. We plan to go all-in this year and pursue another world series title and feel that we are a move or two away from doing that."

  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:13 PM)
    I am not mocking anyone, that statement was actually me.

    Gotcha. Seriously, though. How are we supposed to remotely enjoy anything the rest of this season? Just seems like they'll re-up with a few questionable pieces this offseason again & be back in the same position this time next year.
