The Sox will sit on their hands and do nothing at the deadline just like last year. Remember that this is year 2 of some sort of 3 year plan. The Sox will try to retool again this offseason. This exact time next year we will be having this same conversation as the Sox again hover around 500. Stuck in baseball hell just like the other team that Jerry owns is stuck in basketball hell.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 06:40 PM)It is easy to say sell, but once you do sell, unless you are Caulfield, you can't take it back. Some prospects are nice, but who do the Sox trade that brings back top prospects who, actually are any good? There were several people excited about Avi Garcia back in the day. How does acquiring players like that enhance the future?
No,way would I trade Sale or Q and not get at least so,etching major league back. Trade Robertson and you will spend the next few years looking for a reliever. It isn't like they are going to be able to make much of a splash in the free agent market. If I were Hahn, I would be looking for offensive upgrades from teams that want financial relief.
The Sox playoff odds are currently less than 5%. They should be looking to dump salary not take more on.
Burdi and/or Fulmer can be the closer of the future. A non-contending team doesn't need a closer like Robertson.
Q or Sale will get you a team's #1 prospect. I would love to see that Moncada kid on the Sox. Future superstar in the making.
-
The White Sox playoffs odds are less then 5%. The playoff drought will continue.
-
It pains me to say it, but the Sox need to tear this thing down and start the fire sale. Trade Sale to Boston for that Moncada kid plus another few prospects. Trade Q to Houston for Bregman +. Abreu, Frazier, Robertson, Melky, Lawrie should all be shopped as well. This will never happen under JR's ownership though so it is basically a waste of time to even consider.
What the Sox will do is stand pat. They don't have the trade chips to bring any impactful bats for this year or next since they won't be willing to deal Anderson or Fulmer. Hahn will say some nonsense about how they tried to make a move but couldn't find any acceptable trade partners. He will also say something about how he sees improvement this year and thinks that this team will be ready to compete again next year with a couple more additions. The Sox are nothing if not predictable, so they will do the predictable thing and stay the course.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 04:25 PM)And now 5 of 6 against two of the worst teams in baseball
This Sox team is closer to the Angels, Braves, and Brewers of the world than the big boys.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 04:14 PM)No one in this organization, top to bottom deserves a pass or should be credited with being "a good baseball man"
What have they done to deserve that praise? Everyone has been here for years (#ClassicJerry) so none of this is new.
Robin? Kenny? Rick? Bell? In all 4 cases, they have had an extended run with this franchise, and their track record speaks for itself. NO ONE deserves any sort of benefit of the doubt. Not with 1 playoff appearance(a very short playoff appearance) in 10 years.
This is a spot on post. Each individual listed above deserves to be fired. Professional sports is a cut throat business and the people Jerry has chosen do not have what it takes to do the job. I'll always be thankful to KW for 2005, but things change and only failures live in the past.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 03:51 PM)Sox probably need a Bill Wirtz like passing for that to happen sad enough to say or think. JR won't sell given his age.
This exactly. Unfortunate but true. The Sox will be stuck in mediocrity as long as the current ownership group is in charge. Don't have the balls to blow it up and won't open the pocketbooks to bring in any top flight free agents.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:53 PM)Well if you could actually take some time to read my posts you would realize how stupid your last sentence is.
I didn't see your last post. My bad on that.
I agree that the Sox won't sell this year. Hahn may as well just turn in his walking papers if that happens. They will most likely just stand pat like they did last year. I would really like the entire FO fired in the offseason though if this season continues to tank. This is America and people can be fired if they suck at their job. Someone needs to remind JR of that.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:35 PM)I'll repeat again....so everyone is mad with the team Rick Hahn assembled. But you want him to make the most important trade in franchise history. One that may decide if we are competitive in five years or go 20 years without winning. Do I have that right?
I want Ventura, Hahn, and Williams fired in the offseason.First priority for the new front office is to find a decent catcher and center fielder. See how things are this time next year. Start to sell then if things are still looking bleak.
You think Hahn and Williams are doing a good job and don't deserve any criticism. Do I have that right?
-
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:30 PM)If true, thats another reason Robin should be fired. And Steverson should go with him.
No one in this organization is getting fired. Sox brass are afraid of setting off a domino effect that could happen by firing Sterverson. The problems on this Sox team run much deeper than the hitting coach.
-
That Frazier K was so predictable. Dude is nothing but a one tool player. Can we please have Trayce and Frankie back?
-
How does Frazier not crush that pitch??????
-
Somehow, someway, gotta find a way to score a run!
-
Eaton! thought that was a triple for sure off the bat though.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:06 PM)This is pathetic.
pathetic and scary. The sox are planning to bring back the majority of these dudes for next season as well.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:01 PM)And have a guy that cant stay healthy being your main catcher. Thats smart
Sox would bring up that Kevan Smith dude from the minors as he is healthy now. Navarro is literally one of the worst catchers in baseball. No one would miss him at all.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:57 PM)Navarro should not be hitting in the 8th. I'm sure he will though and I hope to be proven wrong with a hit by him.
Navarro should't even be on the roster. I hope he is released once Avila is back from the dl.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:53 PM)I guarantee you that if we hit 100 straight scoreless innings, Ventura will be fired. And I have my new Spring Training hat that I will eat.
No one is getting fired this year in the Sox organization no matter what happens.
-
At least Frazier was fun to watch in the home run derby I guess. His real life at bats are usually pretty painful.
-
The Sox may not score 100 runs the rest of the year. This is a bad offense that cannot be magically fixed at the trade deadline.
-
Maybe we can flip Shields to Boston or Baltimore in a couple weeks for a decent prospect. That would sum up the Sox year quite well. Maybe offer Navarro to Atlanta for Flowers too!
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:20 PM)Dude, he's hit 2 lasers tonight right at people. Are you even watching the game?
Neither of those were really lasers, dude.
-
Morneau was struggling in Charlotte and Birmingham. What made the Sox brass think he was ready to come up?
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:10 PM)We trade to improve at this point. I am only worried about the Sox
Then you have to be willing to part with Anderson, Fulmer, or Adams. They are the only prospects on the Sox who will bring back any impactful players.
White sox may be reconsidering their stance of being non sellers

I just don't want to see Rich Hill traded for a great package while we're twiddling around
Prepare to be disappointed, man. There is no way in hell that Q or Sale are going anywhere. The Sox won't even trade Robertson as they think that this current cast of clowns will be able to compete again next year with a few minor tweaks and additions.
