It does take an effort to have to post those every day especially when I'm on the road for football and basketball broadcasts, but I'll think about it. Getting more feedback from board members on this would help the decision one way or the other.

You could just share some whenever you get a chance. I know I would be interesting in seeing these.

When healthy, the Sox have 5-7 pretty good players/pitchers. Is it this difficult? You take the 5-7 good players and sign free agents and build a competitive team. This waiting around is pretty annoying. We already got some good players and now some on here are talking 2023 before we are good? Or 2022? If this is so ... don't you agree it won't be healthy having our studs lose so many games? Moncada will feel like some sort of jinx/failure if the team blows in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

How does this pertain to this thread? Well in the first half we had 5-7 players play so well we won a lotta games.

Most people don't think it will be 2023... that's one person who thinks the sky is falling...

This seems to echo exactly what I have been suggesting, a one to two year deal possibly with a club option for another season?

I really think the fans calling for a three or four year extension are going to be surprised when the Sox won't go more than short term.

Could it also be we are working on his contract we will offer next season after we trade him this year? Like trade him away with next years deal already in place? Haha I know this isn't likely but it would be best for the team. You get to keep Abreu for when we start to be good plus you get some trade pieces.

If the White Sox offer him the most money - as is always the case with stars and free agency - then they can retain him.

The only way the Sox would lose him is if they didn't pay the most.

And the yankees and redsox have more money than anybody to offer him... that was the point of what I was saying.

If Luis Robert becomes Mike Trout, I don't think any of us will care about his service time

I was just pointing out ways we could lose him even if we wanted to pay him when his service time was up. So having the extra year of him on our team would be more beneficial at that point and no starting the clock early.

This is complete and utter team-speak nonsense and BS. This is an excuse to underpay a guy for an additional year because the organization is cheap. Do you think the Yankees or Red Sox think about this stuff if a player is ready? No because if the player is that good they can just resign him.

We cant make him sign here is the problem. What if he becomes Trout and the Yankees or Red Sox offer him an amount of money we don't have? We don't have the money they have. Also, what if he wants to go play with his friends somewhere like they do in basketball. Some people think we should control what we can control. Be sure he is here as long as we can keep him here. I see both sides of the argument and I really don't lean either way. But there is validity to keeping him an extra year.

All fans believe in winning above everything. Including those in favor of "tanking" or "building"... whatever we want to call it. That's the point of being a fan... you want to win.

I would personally rather pickup a young player who could help us try to win a world series each of the next 4-5 seasons. As opposed to keep a veteran who could help us beat Detroit in September this year. But hey... that's just me being "flip happy".

Wanting to win a world series in 2020 or 2021 instead of wanting to beat the Royals in September IS a belief in "winning above everything". I would say it's actually a much stronger belief and requires that much more dedication to winning.

You want to win a bunch of meaningless, small battles which will be forgotten weeks after they are played out. I want to win multiple wars that will be remembered for eternity.

    THIS!

  8. Vaughn and Madrigal are the only 1st rounders earned from being bad in the rebuild. The Burger pick was earned while we still had Sale, Eaton and Q on the roster. If we had lost a couple more games we could've picked Jo Addell… who went a pick before us. I would say that makes a good case for the "tanking" that greg hates so much.

good luck getting anything better than white the Sox got in the  Yankees deal.  I dunno what it is with some fans you guys see what the market is for relievers every damn year!  You never, ever get a "haul" for anything but the most elite of the elite and there's like 3-4 of those guys in MLB at any given time which is why they are valuable.

Colome and Bummer have combined for 1 WAR!  Bummer has a FIP (I'm not using xFIP anymore because I don't believe Fangraphs has it adjusted to the new environment from what their own guy said) of 3.20.  Colome has a FIP of 3.99!

Look I like them both as Sox players.  They have roles to play and are good at locking down the game but they just aren't that valuable relative to what else is out there.  Just go look at relievers on Fangraphs.  Colome and Bummer are not even close to "elite".

Perhaps ironically, for those reasons I'd be inclined to keep both.  They have more value here than a back end top 100 guy, which is the absolute most they'd get unless they decided to do something crazy and send a bunch of cash or an actual position player guy, maybe one of their "extra" OF in the high minors.

I agree. But what would it take for you to part with them. I think they are more valuable to us then they will be on the trade market but all it takes is one stupid team to give up enough to part ways with them.

Seriously? For a guy that signed for like 2.5 million? Good god this franchise needs a new owner if true.

I could be wrong, but it would be tax reasons for him not our owner. that's what we did with Robert. It could be just to get his feet wet and play his first baseball in a more comfortable environment.

  11. So if (holy) Sheets changed his swing I would say that is even more of a reason to write off his early season struggles. I argued for him in the off season. If his power is real he is a great 1b prospect. Sounds like he is a good defensive 1b with a good hit tool, now if he has the power he is a legit prospect.

I don't even think he ever should have made it out of A+ by this point. They promoted him after hitting .234 in W/S. That is non-prospect performance. I've never thought he was a prospect since he did that. And when he struggled to hit .240 for consecutive seasons, it just confirmed my opinion. He should still be in AA at best, learning how to make fucking contact. He walks a ton and strikes out a ton, and hits HR. IF they're not afraid of the HR because he can't hit MLB stuff, then the walks will go away.  His BEST CASE SCENARIO in the bigs is 2012 Adam Dunn with 30 HR instead of 40. A .220 hitter that walks a metric shit ton and hits a metric shit ton of HR. That guy still doesn't belong in an MLB lineup and I don't even think he's that good.

Collins talent level is nowhere near Moncada's so don't make that comparison. Zack Collins belongs nowhere near a Major League Ballpark.

Every level his OPS is in the high 800. He has done it at every level. I don't see how that is not acceptable as a catcher. He is not a butcher behind the plate. I believe with adjustments he will be able to continue this in the bigs. I think he has earned plate appearances for us. I don't really care about batting average. OPS is more important than average. Give him consistent ABs. Clearly we have seen from other prospects who didn't show us who they really are, it takes time.

correction... his OPS at AA was lower than that.

  13. Can we go to him and say "hey, we have this opportunity to trade you to a contender. You can go get some playoff experience then we would love to have you back next year. If you don't want to go we will keep you here. We think we can get a player or 2 for next year and you get to bring some playoff experience to our roster if we do this. We would even be willing to over pay you a bit to come back. What do you say?"

  14. I know I have posted this before, but what K Law said about his D is, he calls a good game and controls the base paths well, but is a below average receiver/framer. That is a far cry from the butcher everybody talks about. I am a big Collins fan, but with McCann he wont have a ton of opportunities to catch. I hope we McCann keeps it up and is here for a while and Collins is a better than average back-up. Having Castillo up will give us the ability to use Collins/McCann as the DH giving Collins the AB he needs.

Admittedly I know nothing about wRC+. I know it's weighted runs created and whatever the plus is but that's all I know . Just by looking at the stats there  I don't understand how Robert's is higher than Eloys, Eloy 2 more extra base hits, 15 more RBI, 6 more walks, 13 less K's, OBP about the same. Eloy slg. and OPS higher. I know their stats are very similar as is the wRC+ but strange to see Eloy's even slightly lower.

Are stolen bases included in that stat?
