Yankees players love him, he had a lot of job interviews last season, he obviously has a winning attitude.

Personally I think a manager with actual major league managerial experience would be best, but if KW isn't going in that direction, the I think Randolph would be excellent.

Like I said, I would prefer a manager with MLB managerial experience.

Proven, meaning someone somebody else has already fired??

I'm not saying not to, but if the guy is the perfect fit, the guy is a perfect fit.

 

I'm not saying Randolph is a perfect fit as I don't know much about him, but don't just go with proven, because that could mean Bobby Valentine, who would not only be bad for this team, but is a bit overrated.

 

personally, Cito Gaston would be fine by me. I wanted him a few years back, but of course, it never happened. he's laidback like Manuel, but being laidback wasn't Manuel's problem. Manuel's problem was his "we'll be alright, we got time" approach.

We don't need someone managing the Sox that has never won before. These retreads out there just keep surfacing as the manager of another team, that doesn't win either. Let's get someone with a winning record, like Larussa, or get a new guy with a winning rep. Already saw the name of Hargrove mentioned and in the past it was Gaston and Valentine. We don't need them. Heck, why fire Manuel if you bring in someone with a worse overall record?

look at the playoffs teams in the AL: the Red Sox, A's and Twins all have managers, unless I'm mistaken, who have never managed a team before their tenures on their respective teams. Gardenhire, Macha and Grady Little.

 

granted, all four managers in the NL are either highly respected and considered to be quality managers, or veterans: McKeon, Cox, Alou and Baker.

From the comments KW made at the press conference, it was obvious he intends to talk to some folks involved in the playoffs.

 

Looking over the rosters of the coaching staffs, these are the names that I believe COULD come off that list:

 

Ozzie Guillen, Marlins third base coach

 

Willie Randolph, Yankees' third base coach

 

Terry Pendleton, Braves hitting coach

 

Terry Francona, As bench coach and former manager in the Sox farm system when KW was in charge of player development. Flopped with Phillies, but talent wasn't great.

 

Dave Righetti, Giants pitching coach. Highly touted by everybody.

 

I'm sure there are other names, but I believe at least two or three of these guys will be interviewed.
