I don't share her sentiments. Even before Carl & Robbie arrived I knew it would be an uphill battle because the talent had to overcome Manuel. You can say whatever you want about the players but this team was rocking & rolling in NY in late Aug. Emotion is a major part of this game & sweeping NY in NY would elevated the SOX to a level that is not easily torn down. Instead Manuel practically gave the game away with Cotts. I don't want to hear any dumb arse excuses behind his decision. Cotts had shown 1 thing going into that game: control problems. There was nothing to suggest he wouldn't walk Yankees & that's a cardinal sin for any team. There was simply no excuse for this move & if for no other reason it guaranteed Manuel's demise. Only 2 teams swept the Yanks in NY all yr: TEX & TOR. This occured in the early months. So to say that a sweep in NY going into Sep would not have been big is crazy. Jerry, you wouldn't have done a much better job just sleeping on the bench. Don't think too much. It hurts more than it helps.
