He's considered a "great framer" because he's good at getting low pitches called for strikes and that's what the stat guys weigh the most. He uses that elbow out thumb down technique which is good for bringing low strikes up into the zone but if you're lazy (ahem) really bad for pitches on the corners because it's very easy to let the glove drift out of the zone.
