October 22, 200322 yr Elliott Smith wow, this is sad. I saw him back in '99. He was pretty good. I've always dug his stuff and he's influenced people like David Gray and Dennison Witmer. thoughts and prayers for family and friends....apparent suicide...yikes.

October 22, 200322 yr Really??? He had one song that they played on WXRT in Chicago that was really really good. Don't recall the name of it right now. Not surprised it was a suicide. He seemed like a real fun guy.

His song "Needle in Hay" was also used in the wrist-slitting scene in "The Royal Tannenbaums." Yeah, his stuff always was on the depressed side but I liked it. He was also in a West Coast band called the Heatmisers that did some decent stuff.

January 2, 200422 yr Interesting suicides are very popular with the over 80 white male group so maybe you're just too young. Suicide is a very under reported statistic with senior citizens. Some will stop taking meds or reduce food intake and it will be reported as natural causes but in fact they killed themselves.
