He's a more advanced hitter than most 17-year-olds, and his tools are roughly comparable to those of Jaden Fauske, who landed an above-slot $2,997,500 bonus as second-rounder last July. He'll likely spend his first pro season in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. Edited Friday at 08:01 PM3 days by caulfield12
Friday at 08:12 PM3 days I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher have a season like Christian Oppor. The fact that the White Sox still trot him out there instead of just shutting him down is amazing.

Let’s hope an offseason can cure whatever ails Oppor.

I play this nerdy ass baseball simulation game called Out of the Park Baseball and he generally turns into a stud. What the heck happened here?

Nick Nastrini went through something similar after the Sox cut him. Sox farmhand Jarold Rosado seems to be playing footsie with the yips but isn't quite so clear-cut. The persistence of sending Oppor out there is kind of noteworthy though as it seems like teams often send those poor guys into hiding.I can share that when chatting with a few minor leaguer parents at spring training this year, I heard that Christian had some reputation as being kind of arrogant and perhaps uncoachable. The message I was getting was they felt like he was good-hearted but definitely felt like he was the big dog and wanted everyone to know it. Makes me wonder whether the Sox marching him out there is some kind of humiliation ritual or something, lol

Next in line is Bonemer, who's tearing up Double-A pitching at age 20. The Sox replenished their system with a record $22,670,200 in bonus payments in the 2026 Draft, reeling in No. 1 overall pick Cholowsky, two of the best high school bats available in infielders Cole Prosek and Landon Thome and some much-needed pitching highlighted by Joey Volchko.

At 40, Life kinda gets in the way. But maybe in retirement. I would love to be the person on the ground finding out these tidbits. Baseball is such a humbling game. Look at Vlad Jr, brings team to the World Series. Consistently a top-level bat, then he has this kind of year, or Cal Raleigh, or even Freddy Peralta. These guys who had track records of being consistently good and, for some reason, have just horrific years. Unlike, say, basketball or even football, baseball is always about constant adjustments throughout a career no matter how good you are. Hopefully, with a little humble pie he can turn it around. I still have hope. I always prefer the guys who can be dominant, who have control issues, than somebody who just has a low floor who can throw strikes. It's the reason I prefer David Sandlin to somebody like Drew Thorpe.

It is a ton of fun but you have to watch your diet because there’s pretty much very little healthy to eat at typical minor league concessions stands. Short season and A teams were always smaller communities, só you really got to know the players/coaching staffs and after a little time passed the faithful season ticket holders started to feel almost like family members. But scouting isn’t a lot of fun without tons of passion for it, low pay, low visibility and an endless stream of similar lower budget hotel rooms, although even there’s a community of sorts.
