December 3, 200322 yr The Yanks are still making moves. Today they picked up Paul Quantrill to a 2 year deal for $6.8 mil. Link below. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1677108
December 3, 200322 yr Why do they give Quantrill almost the same that Hawkins made. Hawkins is far superior, although Quantrill is pretty good. Hawkins is a lot younger though.
December 3, 200322 yr Why do they give Quantrill almost the same that Hawkins made. Because they can.
December 3, 200322 yr This move is bad for the Sox. Quantril was also a Type A free agent and he was rated higher than Gordon. So if they go completely by player ratings (instead of just type categories) then the draft choice the Sox would receive from the Yankees looks like a 3rd rounder instead of a first.

I thought if they didn't get a first rd pick, they got a sandwich pick to make up for the missing first rounder? I am so confused
December 3, 200322 yr I thought if they didn't get a first rd pick, they got a sandwich pick to make up for the missing first rounder? I am so confused For Type A I think you get a sandwich pick no matter what. But you also get a pick from the team that you sign. And I think it goes by record not by player ratings. For example the Braves had a better record so they would get a lower round pick than the White Sox. Not 100% sure though.
December 3, 200322 yr it goes by team records with type A free agents in both the sandwich round and with the signing team's draft picks...then i think type B fre agents are added into the mix by their record, but always pick later than all the type A free agents. Sox record last year:86-76 LA record:85-77 for that one win, LA gets the first round draft pick and the sox would get the second rounder, the braves get way back in the third round (as of 12/2) but all 3 teams get supplemental round picks ( as long as the players were offered arbitration) but maybe the sox could get a first round draft pick from anothre team for Colon or who knows, if we are lucky, Robbie(if we dont re-sign him)

I have only seen where the draft choice goes to the higher ranked player, with no mention of the record of the team.

December 3, 200322 yr where did u find that out, cuz i thought it was that but sombody here told me that it goes by team record
December 4, 200322 yr Considering we sign Flash as a free agent and he was a great big question mark when we did, a supplemental first rounder and a 3rd round pick is not a bad return, imho.
