Blue Jays to make trade very soon

Featured Replies

I doubt it is but u know they mite want him back, u neva know. Plus they say it isn't an established closer which prob gives it away that it ain't Koch.

NEW ORLEANS -- Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said late Saturday at the Winter Meetings that he could be close to a deal for a right-handed reliever.

"It just popped up and we're trying to move on it," Ricciardi said. "I wouldn't consider it a major trade, but it would fill a need. It's someone who could help us."

Ricciardi added the player was not an established closer but would have a chance to compete with Aquilino Lopez and Kerry Ligtenberg for the Jays' job next season.

"It's just a piece of the puzzle," Ricciardi said. "And we would be dealing from depth."

The Jays have great depth in the outfield, including top prospects Alexis Rios, Gabe Gross and John-Ford Griffin at Triple-A.

Ricciardi said the team he was talking to is not in the American League East. He also said the Jays would add salary in the deal.

"If we do this deal, we wouldn't have enough money to go get [an established free-agent] closer," Ricciardi said.

Ricciradi said the deal, if it is made, could happen immediately or might be delayed until Sunday.

maybe it's Jose Paniagua

Its a possibility, but how much money are the Sox willing to pay. I'd think once it gets to a point they'd say hey, we'll just keep Koch cause at that price, we might as well just take our chances.

Sounds like a set up guy with a good fastball if I had to guess. Maybe a Kyle Farnsworth, or someone of the same ilk.

J.P. Riccardi is way too smart to trade for Koch.

I hope the Sox can find a way to get their hands on Orlando Hudson. Rumor has it that he is available, and I think he has a chance to be an AS calibur 2B and to top it off he is young and cheap.

A 3 way trade was just made between the Jays, Rockies, and Devil Rays.

Jays got:

Justin Speier RP(from Colorado)

Rockies got:

Joe Kennedy LP(from Tampa)

Devil Rays got:

Mark Hendrickson LP(from Toronto)

I am not sure if this was the trade that you were refering too.

Im surprised that the D-Rays would give up Kenneddy. He was an excellent pitcher for them last year. Overall, a good deal for all teams.

Kennedy was good the year before, last year I think he had an ERA around 6.
