December 15, 200322 yr This doesn't really kill that deal, if you ask me it makes it more viable. Now the Sox would know their price if they do trade for Guillen, instead of worrying what he would get in arbitration. I think they signed him, much like the Sox signed Mark Johnson before trading him because it makes it easier to work out a deal when the guy is signed.

The only regrettable thing is that Sox jumped the gun too soon and overpaid Valentin by about 2 Mill. At 3 Mil per/1 year contract, he is solid bargain and Sox could have used the remaining 2 Mill to resign Sullivan, making a stud RH reliever to help Marte close not nearly as BIG a priority.... Dumb KW.

December 15, 200322 yr If the Mariners can unload Jeff Cirillo, they will move Guillen to 3rd to platoon with Willie Bloomquist, and then they can prob take on the Maggs and Jose deal.
