December 17, 200322 yr "Nomar Changes Sox" That headline will in the lower left hand corner. This will be the main sports story in the Tribune tomorrow, "CUBS GET GLOVER!"
December 17, 200322 yr Do you know Huff's numbers off hand, if thats the case can he play centerfield, if so, I would still sign Juan Gonzalez for right. No...he's mediocre in right, although Juan Gone in right would be a butcher. The big thing is Huff is a left handed hitter. Huff is also due to make about a mill next year...so it will cost a ton to get him via trade. This past season .311 AVG, .367 OBP, 34 HR, 107 RBI, .922 OPS and he is 26, although he'll be 27 on opening day. Maggs ops was .926...so very similar.
December 17, 200322 yr Remember, Aubrey Huff put up in my opinion, better numbers then Maggs last year. Not that I think the Sox are gonna get huff, although it would be nice. Rumors have Huff wanting out of Tampa. Rauch, Borchard, Pacheco, and maybe one low-level prospect. I can't see tampa getting a better deal than that.
December 17, 200322 yr Rumors have Huff wanting out of Tampa. Rauch, Borchard, Pacheco, and maybe one low-level prospect. I can't see tampa getting a better deal than that. I wouldn't give Jo Bo and Rauch for him. One of those and Pachecho, yes, both of them and Pachecho, no.
December 17, 200322 yr I wouldn't give Jo Bo and Rauch for him. One of those and Pachecho, yes, both of them and Pachecho, no. Rauch and Borchard still have value, might as well trade them while they still have it and to get Huff the Sox's would need to make a really good deal, Tampa has no intention of trading no matter how much he wants out.
December 17, 200322 yr I wouldn't give Jo Bo and Rauch for him. One of those and Pachecho, yes, both of them and Pachecho, no. Pacheco was amazing, why not deal Rauch? I mean he's older, and he is coming off a major injury.
December 17, 200322 yr Pacheco was amazing, why not deal Rauch? I mean he's older, and he is coming off a major injury. Once again, Huff is cheap, young, and has Maggs type numbers. To get him we'd have to offer A LOT.
December 17, 200322 yr if I were KW, I would talk to Nomar to see if he would be willing to play here and potentially sign here. If not, we should make a deal with LA. If so, I'd keep him, he's a great player and could fill our shortstop needs. forcing the Dodgers to take Konerko for Perez could be another good way to do this since they are desperate for offense. and then, if you can dumb Valentin, you can then save enough money to keep Nomar and sign Ponson or some relief help
December 17, 200322 yr Ponson is not coming here. If the Dodgers don't end up with Nomar, then they'll go towards Vlad. If that happens the O's will step up their offer even more.
December 17, 200322 yr JOHN Valentin has been out of baseball for a long while... Actually he was on the Mets last year
December 17, 200322 yr I am not sure I like that lineup; I don't like the fact you got Uribe, Guillen, Olivo, Konerko, Huff, Rowand, all in one time. I dont see too much run production out of that bunch, if you sign Juan Gonzalez, that would look better. Also, dump Billy Crotch, to the Mets and get Royce Ring back. I agree that is not the best looking top of the order, Uribe would be a HORRIBLE choice for leading off. The guy had a .290 OBP, that is horrible. As for trading Koch to the mets for Ring, don't put your marbles on it. New York fans are high on this guy, and the Mets are taking pride in developing a young bullpen. Some are predicting Ring to be closing or setting up for Grant Roberts as soon as next season.
December 17, 200322 yr Best case for Sox is the scenario with keeping Nomar and forcing Dodgers to take Konerko for Mota or Perez, then you have Nomar, Williamson for Mags money, whatever we get for Jose (probably somebody who can play 2nd), then the money we saved on Konerko.... That should work money wise
December 17, 200322 yr One more thing on Royce, I heard he was throwing 90's when we drafted him, last I heard he was throwing mid to high 80's. If he has arm problems, then it looks like that was a good trade we made.
December 17, 200322 yr Actually he was on the Mets last year Being on the Mutts is very close to being out of baseball! And NEVER trust ANYTHING you hear on the Snore - they are "tabloid radio" - they'll say anything they feel like to get you to stay tuned. They suck.
