Brewers sign Grieve

Featured Replies

The Milwaukee Brewers on Monday agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Ben Grieve, the 1998 American League Rookie of the Year.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Grieve, 27, spent the last three seasons with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He was limited to 55 games last season due to a blood clot in his arm and batted .230 with four homers and 17 RBI.

Grieve batted .279 with 27 homers and 104 RBI in 2000, but his numbers have steadily declined since. He has not driven in more than 72 runs since 2000.

Grieve was the 1998 Al Rookie of the Year with the Oakland Athletics, hitting .288 with 18 homers and 89 RBI.

Not a bad signing especially since they're going cheap...

Could be a sign that they mite move Jenkins, but Grieve will prob play in rite. Not a bad outfield that they got there now.

I can't believe that Ben Grieve has become what he's become. One game against the Sox his rookie season he had like 3 doubles and each nearly went through the wall he hit them so hard. Just had me and my buddies saying wow. Too bad he's fallen off the map.

ESPN reported something like $700k this year.

Maybe Ben just needed to get out of Tampa Bay, but moving to Milwaukee isn't a good way to escape losing. 700k would be a good deal if he can finally perform to his full potential.
