Here's the update of the White/Red Sox rumor

The basic deal is Magglio/Valentine for Nomar/Williamson/Nixon.

The White Sox would be trading away the top prospect if they can get Nomar to sign an extension. If Nomar decides that he wants to test free agency then the deal would still be made with the Red Sox getting a mid level prospect. Either way, the prospect the White Sox will trade will be a pitcher. Supposedly it could be anyone but Honel.

The minor leaguer the Red Sox would trade would be a low level prospect.

Red Sox brass is having a tough time parting with Trot Nixon and would prefer to move Johnny Damon but the White Sox can not take on his salary unless they move Konerko which doesn't look like it will happen.

Sorry for confusion.

Your pal Otis."

Don't know about you, but I still like the deal if the top prospect isn't Reed, Honel or Wing. Honestly, I could give Cotts up, he seems like a average major leaguer with his control issues. I think Honel has more upside, even if the minor league numbers don't say that. After thinking about this for a while either Otis is doing a great job or fooling us with his realistic deal talk about prospects or he is for real with a source in the Red Sox organization. Anyway, it at least makes me excited for the next two days or how long till we know it's fake or real.

Hey I know we can't afford Damon's salary but I would love him here! He is an awsome centerfielder/leadoff hitter I say just screw it and go out and take him. Then if we drasticlly need to dump payroll just give konerko away to anyone even for the littlest prospects. Becaue getting williamson, nomar, and Damon fill 3 BIG holes for us! of course i would live with nixson also, but Damon is signed beyond this year 8.0 mil this year and 8.6 next year i think. WE should have alot of money next year so lets take a hurt in the payroll this year so it will benefit next year. Rowand is not the answer!

I still love this deal. Just as long as it's not Reed, I doubt we'd trade Reed. I have a feeling we could get 2 years out of Nomar, the Red Sox really want that top prospect from the looks of it. And is it just me, or is deal seriously going to go through? I really don't see anything that could hold back either side. We'll see.

The hold up i can see is if Boston wants to part with Nixon. The people in boston love him. Bos want to dump damon and well we can't afford him at his price. so maybe we can get damon and bos will pay for some of his 8.0 mil salary this year and then we will have to pay his 8.5 mil next year because we will have alot of money supposedly to work with.

Brother...if the Sox "couldn't afford" your boy Robbie, or Ordonez, how the hell are they gonna pay Nomar???

They gotta trade him if they get him!

JR SUCKS!

By trading away almost $20 mil in salary.

By trading away almost $20 mil in salary.

Exactly, we're cutting payroll with this deal.

Just curious here, what if we traded Koch along with Maggs and Jose...could we then get Damon, or would the $2 mill difference be enough?

ILL believe anything

ILL believe anything

The Dolphins went 0-16 this year

Who knows about the true credibility of this rumor, but it does make sense. I thought that after the A-Rod deal fell through Nomar was going to have a difficult time going back to Boston, and if that couldn't be remedied quickly with a contract extension they would have to move because it could sour that clubhouse all season

If we dealt them Konerko as well, then the Sox would be really dropping salary so I'm assuming theyd have to pick up more elsewhere.

Now maybe they could move Koch to the BoSox, but I dont' even think that happens. Personally I think Damon makes a little too much money. Doesn't he make like 8 mill and Nixon makes 4 mill. I'll just stick Reed or someone else in cf (Or you can let Nixon play cf and sign a RF).

I like Trot Nixon, the guys numbers will likely drop, but he had over a .950 OPS and gives the Sox some left handed pop.

Nixon made $4 million last year. Unless he has already signed a contract for this year that I don't know of, I'd expect him to make at least $5 million, if not more.

I was thinking Nixon is signed to a multi year deal, but thats going off of memory.

Neither source I looked up showed any deal extending into 2004. One site listed his 2003 salary under "one-year deals".

If the Red Sox really want to unload Damon, if they pay three or four million dollars of his salary for next year that would balance out a Nixon dor Damon swap in the trade plans. However, as much as the BoSox love him, I think it would make more sense in this deal for Nixon to go, since if they keep him and lose Damon they'd essentially have three right fielders in Ramirez, Maggs and Trot. I also don't see any way that the Red Sox would want Koch if they're trying to get rid of Williamson. Koch is way, way, way too expensive for a set-up man (even though that's what the White Sox will probably use him as), especially since they just signed Foulke.

Not that there's any reason that they'd be part of this deal, but it might be useful for Kenny to get Bill Mueller or Kevin Millar as a part of this trade if it happens. That way, should Konerks get traded there's a well above average player ready to step in. Both make about two million this year, so even if the Sox don't manage to unload Paul, they could stay around as a utility guy or be spun off in another deal for a pitcher. There's probably no way Kenny could pull that off, but it's just a thought.
