Erstad

Sorry if this has been posted.

From Rotoworld:

Manager Mike Scioscia told Darin Erstad yesterday that he'll play first base next season.

Only because it took Vladimir Guerrero's signing for them to make the move does playing Erstad at first base not look like a disaster for the Angels. All of Erstad's value is based on his defensive play in center field, so unless he hits quite a bit better than he did the last three years, he'll be the worst first baseman in baseball. If the Angels can trade him for Paul Konerko -- even if they have to throw in a quality prospect or two -- they should do so immediately.

Obviously this isn't a rumor that a deal like that would happen, but according to the "Otis Report" the Sox would like Nixon, but would take Damon if they could get rid of Konerko. The question is, can Damon play right field? Or better yet has he played right field in his career?

Trading PK for Erstad dose nothing money wise.

Erstad

2004: $7.5M

2005: $8.0M

2006: $8.5M

I'd rather keep PK.

It does balance out the team a little better, but moneywise it is nil. It gives us a real CF, and we can still have Frank play 1B.

Erstad would be a good defensive CF, but that's it. Ozzie would thrust him into the leadoff spot, and he'd probably manage a .330 OBP. Rowand would become a 4th outfielder like he should be, and either him or the G-load would DH.

Ugh, ugly.

i think this could help both teams... but if the sox consider ths trade ( and im not sure if they should) they should make washburn part of the deal instead of prospects.

maybe..

TO SOX: washburn and erstad and cash

TO ANGELS: Konerko and valentin ( in a perfect world)

reallistically... Konerko, Rauch, and lower level prospect (maybe andy gonzalez, munoz, or sanders) :usa

In my fantasy world this would be the line-up:

Johnny Damon

Darrin Erstad

Nomar Garciappara

Frank Thomas

Carlos Lee

Randall Simon

Joe Crede

Miguel Olivo

Willie Harris

But that's just me.

Why would we want Erstad and Damon...

If we are saying Konerko is better than Erstad....

Wouldnt we rather just have Konerko and Damon?

Well, if you have both Erstad and Damon in the outfield then you're really throwing some leather. Which is what Ozzie would like to see the team do.

I think under Guillen the Sox will get away from the big boppers clogging up the lineup.

But we are saving no money and adding no pitching.

Not to mention, throwing alot of leather in the outfield is not all that important if your pitchers are giving up hits that are longer than 330 ft.

If we want to improve our defense we need to start in the infield, and then address the outfield.

Lee is a decent outfielder, Arow and Harris adequate, and Maggs decent.

Compared to Valentin and unknown starting 2b, I say if we are trading lets improve some need areas.

Not to mention id rather have Reed or Brochard getting Abs if Estrad is going to be out there, atleast theyd get MLB experience.

We have outfielders, its everything else we need.
