baggio202
No Brooks Robinson? Satchel Paige? Hank Greenberg? Whitey Ford? Joe Dimaggio? Barry Bonds? Duke Snider? Roy Campenella? Bob Gibson? Joe Jackson? Josh Gibson? no active players and only major leaguers...that eliminates some on your list campy or berra..i chose berra dimaggio was the toughest to leave off but dont you think mays , cobb , speaker , and mantle were 4 CF better than dimaggio???..duke snyder , another CF , he wasnt as good as dimaggio joe jackson probably should have been one of my left fielders..replace stargell whitey ford??...over grove , spahn , koufax and even the babe??..no way...if billy peirce and whitey ford switched team pierce would have won 300 games..maybe brooks over eddie mathews???..mathews hits over 521 homers , 271 avg and brooks 268 homers , 267 average...his defense was great but his numbers on offense were weak for a hall of famer... bob gibson (251 - 174 , 2.91) over tom seaver(311 - 205 , 2.86)???..this was close but seaver with over 300 wins has to be taken over gibson..since they pitched in the same era its an easy comparision.. satchel paige...its unfortunate he didnt pitch in the majors in his prime but his major league record was 28 - 31... greenburg..hall of famer but how could you take him (331 - 1276 - 313) over foxx (534 - 1922 - 325) , sisler (102 - 894* - 340) * no record for rbi in his first 5 years) , (493 - 1995 - 340) or mccovey (521 - 1555 - 270)... i think i got everyone...joe jackson was on i forgot... Rex Hudler
I am just bringing up names...... i didn't notice your no current players or mention of dimaggio before i made my post, but for discussions sake, I decided not to go back and edit it. the lists are tough...... i'd probably rate Greenberg over Sisler and McCovey. Probably Brooks over Brett. Possibly even Pete Rose over Carew. But the cool thing about it is, unless you just forgot someone, there are no wrong answers. I always picked 3 OF's and didn't worry about position, though. Either way you look at it, these discussions are what makes baseball great. No other sport has the history baseball does.
