February 23, 200422 yr i liked this part What's really disheartening for the Sox and their fan base is that even when the team won the American League Central Division in 2000, the Cubs drew more fans to their ballpark and seemed to make just as many headlines for how bad they were. i could see that this year... imagine if the cubs fail and the sox do well, which i don't think is out of the question. all the talk will still be about the cubs.

I don't even recall much Cub talk. And the news in all the papers was about how we lynched them at the Q&A. Maybe if someone had ventured out of their room and not left early...
February 23, 200422 yr i liked this part i could see that this year... imagine if the cubs fail and the sox do well, which i don't think is out of the question. all the talk will still be about the cubs. a season's tickets sales depend a lot on what happened the season before which is why in 1984 we had a disappointing season and the cubs won a division title and we outdrew them
February 23, 200422 yr Didn't mean to shock you, Show! I'm just SO tired of this "poor poor us" attitude from Sox fans and now the players themselves. The Cubs are getting media attention LATELY for the things they have done on and off the field. Like it or not, they came very damn close to the World Series last year, with only the flukiest fluke of all flukes keeping them from it. I was absolutely certain that a 3-run 8th inning lead would be enough with Prior on the mound, but there you have it. After that implosion, Game 7 was a given for Florida. Since then, they have addressed most of their preceived weaknesses with solid acquisitions ( 1B, RH and LH setup, bench bats, etc. ) and have only increased their chances for postseason success this year. I feel less annoyed by the media attention given them this year because they've actually DONE something to deserve it. It's not like the media is fawning over a 68-win team, as they have done in the past. If the Sox are that pissed off about it, DO something about it - win some games, win a title, make some noise in the playoffs! But please don't whine in the papers about it!
