A first look at how the teams will start next season:

Rank  Teams  Comment

1.  Twins  Biggest upside among LCS entrants.

2.  A's  Starting pitching makes them perennial threat.

3.  Yankees  Treating new labor agreement like jokebook.

4.  Giants  Impressive restructuring, but Alou a question.

5.  Diamondbacks  Randy, Curt and Elmer will provide glue.

6.  Red Sox  Taking gamble with closer-by-committee.

7.  Phillies  Thome and Co. need to overcome dubious 'pen.

8.  Angels  Offense won't recapture postseason magic.

9.  Astros  Aging position players, but young starters help.

10.  Mets  Maybe this year's mishmash will be better.

11.  Braves  Lost seven pitchers who combined for 2.85 ERA in '02.

12.  Cardinals  Terrific lineup, but rotation remains a concern.

13.  Mariners  Same team, new manager, brutal division.

14.  White Sox  Up-the-middle players a concern.

15.  Dodgers  Offense needs more than McGriff.

16.  Cubs  Baker will be challenged like never before.

17.  Blue Jays  On the rise, especially if pitching improves.

18.  Reds  Will Griffey be healthy for opening of new park?

19.  Rangers  Showalter will make them more respectable.

20.  Expos  They'll win once they get to Washington, D.C.

21.  Marlins  Raising payroll, to no avail.

22.  Rockies  L. Walker blew it by choosing not to escape.

23.  Padres  Waiting for young pitching to take hold.

24.  Pirates  Yes, Kevin Young still is on club.

25.  Indians  Roster interchangeable with Class AAA affiliate's.

26.  Orioles  New management team should help, but there's a long way to go.

27.  Devil Rays  Despite Lou, another 100 losses are possible.

28.  Royals  When will Beltran be traded?

29.  Brewers  Lots of luck to new G.M. Melvin.

30.  Tigers  Trammell and Gibson are headed for a rude awakening.

somebody commented over on the twins board that rosenthal is bigtime twinkie fan...

Then he is no longer on my "must read" list.

I liked his comment on the Royals.

How could the Twins possibly be #1. They lost some key members, while the Angels brought everyone back, The Yankees rebuilt a bit, so did the Sox as well as other teams.

Its alright though, we'll prove him wrong; cause who wins the series is all that matters, and its going to be the SOX :headbang

Rosenthal can write a good article and his inside dishes are pretty cool....but he can't predict worth a s***. Last year in prediciting winners in the playoff games, he only predicted 1 team right(compared to my 2!) and that's pretty bad...and then he judges teams based on which teams got to the LCS...so he's basically asking who is the best out of the Giants, Cards, Angels and Twins, while he doesn't consider the A's, Yankees, Braves, Phillies, Astros, D-Backs, Red Sox, Mariners or even our beloved White Sox(I didn't expect them to be #1...but I figured I'd bring them up anyways).

It's fun to read some of his things...but that's a bit moronic, if you ask me.

What a brutal look at some teams. "Alou a question" in San Fran? There is some piss poor effort but I like it, hope we get lots more like this too. :bringit

Id atleast expect the Sox to be like 8th or 9th overall...

well the people don't agree with ken, the poll on the TSN front page says

"The Twins are No. 1 in our preseason Power Poll. Do you like their World Series chances?"

The Results...

No: 83%

Yes: 17%

I like that: 83% no. He says that we are weak up the middle but Jose is not too bad with a stick in his hands, and the more I think about it, the more I like D'angelo Jimenez.

BigHurt...the fact of the matter remains that we ARE weak up the middle...Jose's got a good bat and is probably a top 10 SS in the majors, and probably the 5th or 6th best SS in the AL(behind A-Rod, Tejada, Jeter, Garciaparra and possibly Vizquel), but he's our only proven quality up the middle...Jimenez showed signs of returning to form after his accident, but nothing is guaranteed. Rowand may not even be ready for CF yet, and that leaves us with either Borchard or Harris....and then you got Olivo as the starting catcher with Sandy as the backup and one of Paul, Burke, or Morales being the #3 catcher(however, if Burke can play more than just catcher, say, maybe 3B and LF and RF, as well as 1B, that is very good and he should make the team....IF he can do that, that is)....we COULD be strong up the middle....ideally, Valentin has a 2000-ish year, Jimenez has a very good year and returns to the form he had prior to his accident, Rowand is healthy and does an excellent job in CF or Borchard wins in ST and is a very good LH power hitter for us, and Olivo lives up to his expectations, and hits about .270 15 60 20 or so for us while playing excellent defense with an excellent arm....none of that is guaranteed, which is why we are weak up the middle.
