Just heard it on the Score update. Borchard and Rivera were also assigned to Charlotte.

Sounded like they're trying to work out a trade with the Marlins so they can keep Grilli in the organization but maybe send him to Charlotte for a while.

I hope Burke doesn't get cut I wanted Jon Adkins, David Sanders, Mike Rivera, Jason Grilli, and Borchard

I would like Burke to make it with that third baseman option (keep Uribe at short and second) and as a third catcher. However, it looks to me that we will indeed carry the 12 pitchers, which probably isn't a bad idea, to at least start the season that way.

Ya, Grilli is likely going to be in AAA to start the season. I'm kind of thinking both Adkins and Cotts may start the season with the Sox, which definately surprises me, but both have pitched good thus far this spring.

i hope Ozzie uses those guys early and keeps them sharp and involved.

 

always thought one of Manuel's biggest weaknesses as a manager was to rely on 7 or 8 pitchers and let three or four guys lose their edge in the pen.

It isn't as simple as just throwing Grilli into AAA. If he doesn't stay on our 25 man roster for the entire season, I don't believe being on the DL hampers this, we have to offer him back to the Marlins for $25,000. We would like to keep him, so Schoney is creating a dilemma, in more ways than just the fourth spot.

TUCSON, Ariz. — White Sox general manager Ken Williams hinted Sunday that news on right-handed pitcher Jason Grilli could come in the next "24 to 48 hours."

That news is expected to be the Rule 5 draft pick from Florida is no longer in the plans for the Sox's 25-man roster.

 

"We will have more to talk about with regards to Jason Grilli in the next 24 to 48 hours," Williams said.

 

Manager Ozzie Guillen, however, might have let the cat out of the bag when asked about Grilli after Sunday's Cactus League game.

 

"He threw pretty good," Guillen said. "He's a kid that I want. We don't know how many pitchers we're going to carry right now. To have him not pitching with the 'A' team every day, we have to put him down there to throw a couple minor league games or 'B' games. His situation is pretty tough. Hopefully, we'll get something done to keep him here."

 

By rule, if a Rule 5 draft pick doesn't make the 25-man roster, his new team has to offer him back to his original team. In order for the Sox to keep Grilli but put him in Triple A, they would have to work out a deal with the Marlins.

I think if Neal has a strong outing the Sox may do that. But I think they will give Scho the first crack to suceed in the rotation with Cotts getting a little experience out of the bullpen and if either Wright or Scho falter then Cotts would step in.

 

I wonder what the Sox will give Florida. I'm guessing you could see an outfielder moved, since the system seems to have so many of them.

Ulacia is a south Florida guy too. Wouldn't surprise me.

Add Sanders to that list. He too, was sent down (no big surprise).
