May 1, 200421 yr Before we annoint Ozzie as the next Casey Stengel, remember that the Sox had the exact same won-loss record last year at this time (under Manuel). We also had Bartolo Colon, Tom Gordon, and a (good) D'Angelo Jimenez at 2B last year too. The fact that they weren't better is what is worse. I am perfectly happy with this team's record, considering the talent level on this team.

Only Uribe is hitting consistently so far, every1 is hitting well in bunches, if we want to continue to win, we need to put runs on the board consistently, not 11 runs 1 game, and 1 the next.
May 1, 200421 yr Sounds like Hawk just has trouble with people whose initials are JM. It’s a rare form of Nomatophobia, the fear of names. I think he dis'd the Jack McKeon hiring last year, I know he never liked Jack Morris and he's always harping on Jose Mesa. He was happy to see Jack McDowell go. He gave Jo-Jo Moore a break only because he thought it was two different names. Good thing we never got John Mayberry or Hawk would have rode out of town too.

May 1, 200421 yr , we need to put runs on the board consistently, not 11 runs 1 game, and 1 the next. Amen. Since mid-2000, Sox have been one of the better mistake hitting teams in the majors, but against good breaking ball pitchers? Not so much. Hawk's "don't tell me what, tell me WHEN" is exactly right -- I could care less about padding stats against some scub reliever in a blow out. You ain't gonna win in the PLAYOFFS by hitting back-to-back-to-back homers to LF on 1-2 counts, that's for sure. That's one of the reasons why I am always pushing for a Shilling-type starter at the ASB -- I am simply not counting on the Sox to score 6 runs a game in the postseason -- not against Pedro, Shill, Vasquez, Brown, two of which they're gonna see in ALDS if the Sox get there.
May 1, 200421 yr I love Hawk. It amazes me how non-Sox fans I run into that catch a game on GN say he's pathetic and a homer. I still insist Hawk and DJ do more mild bashing of the team when the team is sucking than any crew in baseball. Like the past couple years during the stretches we sucked and were lifeless. My own opinion is if the team is going fairly well they don't obsess about s***, but Hawk I feel is a pleasure to listen to. In fact I feel he's the best.
