Pena vs. Ozzie

Featured Replies

Is anybody else worried that another ebullient, exuberant, enthusiastic

manager, Tony Pena, now is being deemed sort of a clown on the KC

talk shows.

And that Oz appears to be the Tony realm of managers?

Exciting, excitable, peppy, etc?

I like Pena and love Oz, but I wonder if it still only boils down to the players.

Won't modern day ballplayers pretty much loaf on any coach unless

they are the rare breed (Clemenses, Ripkens, Bretts, Fisks) that love to play

the game?

In other words, do you think Oz is doomed or will he be MOY

in the AL?

I think it was in the recorded Joe Borchard interview, where he said it still boils down to the players. A manager can only excite a team so much. I believe Ozzie is only partly responsible for some of our early season successes just as Jerry Manuel was only partly responsible for our failures of the past three seasons.

Depending on how KW and Oz go about acquiring players via trade, free agency, or draft we could see a totally different White Sox team take shape over the next few years. We certainly do NOT have the best team on the field right now for playing Ozzieball. I could probably even go ahead and say that we have probably one of the worst lineups in baseball for the Ozzieball style of play.

If the Kansas City press and fans can't respect a guy with the ML pedigree of Tony Pena, they don't deserve a baseball team in that city.

Great responses by both of ya.

I still remember my exciting match against Donkey in that trivia contest.

Donkey outlasted me. He is a wealth of knowledge.

Admit it Donkey ... how did you get all my questions correct???

Tony Pena can be as uplifting, excited, enthusiastic, and fired up as he wants to. And he can impart wisdom, excitement, fire, and intangibles all he wants to his team.

It all comes down to the same thing - no matter who the manager is of any team - STARTING PITCHING.

Ours is mediocre and certainly nothing to write home about, but Tony's starting staff is something that brings nightmares to people. It SUCKS.

Rest in peace, Royals. We hardly knew ye.

It all comes down to the same thing - no matter who the manager is of any team - STARTING PITCHING.

Their #1,2,3 starters at the end of the year could be Jeremy Affledt, Jimmy Gobble and Zack Greinke. Ouch. ;)
