Carlos Castillo

All right, so something about Bartolo and all the worries about his weight (though relatively unfounded it seems) had been giving me flashbacks about that Sox pitcher from a few years back, Carlos Castillo. You want weight problems, there they are. I remember a couple of times on one of his brief call ups to the Sox, the runner would beat him to first base on groudballs to the right side of the infield. After two or three of those, he got sent back down, and if I recall, was gone from the organization soon after. Anyone else remember this guy? And is he still around baseball someplace?

Wow, I forgot all about him. I don't remember much about him anymore though. I don't think he's playing anywhere in the majors or minors, but he could be playing in a different professional league.

Yes, I remember him. He was fat, but worse, he was a lousy pitcher. I don't think he would have made any other major league team. If I remember correctly, the Sox were awful in those days. He couldn't make our AAA team if he were resurrected today.

There have been some decent pitchers who were overweight. David Wells of recent vintage, and Mickey Lolich of 30-35 years ago. Early Wynn was close to that description. Wilbur Wood.

Bartolo has always had really huge legs, and I'm sure he gets his power there.

I remember him. I was hard to see who was hitting on television because is ass was so damn big

He last played for the Boston RedSox in 2001

2 games with an ERA of 6.00

I whole-heartedly sgree with you on this statement. Colon is an amzing pitcher, and doesn't have as big as a weight problem as Castillo did. Castillo was a fat ass, and was a terrbile pitcher to boot, there is a big difference between a tettible pitcher who is morbbidly obese, and a pitcher who is amazing, but a little over weight.

I was watching SportsCenter last night, and saw Colon a little....he looks fine....like he has in years past.

And I wouldn't exactly call Colon fat....but I'm not crazy enough to call him skinny. I'd say pudgy fits the bill well.

It's one thing if you're fat....another thing if you are fat and slow. But if you are fat, you're slow, and you suck....then you don't stand a frickin chance, even if you can throw it 100 MPH(because if you suck, that would mean you have no control whatsoever).

Where is most of that 1998 pitching squad?

Didn't Carlos have a brother named Tony Castillo on the team?

What happened to Joey Cora and Tony Phillips?

Tony was a lefty, if I recall. Cora and Phillips both retired.

He was a fatass loser

Joey Cora is managing in the minor leagus. And I miss seeing Tony Phillips talking to himself at the plate. What a goofy bastard.

I never sw either of them on the White Sox, they were before my time. I know Joey from his days with the Mariners. I miss watching him.

The goofier thing about Tony Phillips is............... his intense love for Crack rock cocaine.

I still remember the day he was in left field and a fan was heckling him real bad and Tony took himself out of the game...changed clothes...then went out into the left field bleachers and beat the piss out of the guy. Haha...he was pretty intense.

I heard that is why he always had a good OBP, someone kept telling him that there was some crack under first base.

carlos has a cousin that i beleive is back in the sox organization...carlos chantres...he pitched at AAA for us in '00..then was released..i think we signed him back this year

Wouldn't it be funny to see Konerko and Castillo run a foot race? That would take ages to complete, but Konerko might just eke out a victory! LOL!

And talking about Sox players from the mid/late 90s...Does anyone know what has become of Paco Martine?
