Sandy Alomar

I know Sandy Alomar is a veteran catcher, and he has been hitting pretty well, but his arm behind the plate is killing us. Last week against Baltimore he didnt even attempt to throw out Brian Roberts on two straight steels and this week he cost us the game by hitting the base runner on a 1-0 game. Miguel hits better than Sandy and is a better catcher. I think that the Sox should make Sandy the backup and mentor Miguel.

Just my opinion and i still love sandy :fthecubs

Hopefully Olivo can be our everyday catcher next year. He is REALLY coming into his own so far this year. His arm is amazing and someone said he had the 2nd best era for catchers. With an average at about .300 he should be about 7th in the lineup, now. He's gonna have a great career, hopefully for the Sox.

-The Sox use him sparingly though.

Usually all he is used in is for Loaiza, Buehrle or a struggling pitcher.

You could use Jamie Burke, he's still here too.

He had no chance to. The pitchers didn't hold Roberts on all series. It was ridiculous. You can't lay blame on Alomar for what Roberts did to us in that series.

Exactly, and on that one, the pitch was crappily thrown, so what was he supposed to do? Nothing.

Burke was optioned back down to AAA when Diaz got called up.

Burke back to Charlotte: To make room for Felix Diaz, who started Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader, catcher/infielder Jamie Burke was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte between contests. Even though Diaz grabbed his roster spot, Burke believes the right-hander could be the answer to the White Sox's year-long fifth starter's question.

"I believe in Diaz," said Burke, who caught all but two of Diaz's games in Charlotte. "If he stays within his game and doesn't change anything here, I don't see any reason why he can't run off with it and take control as the fifth starter.

"He's going to be nervous with his first Major League start. But I watched him pitch (during winter baseball). Those crowds were crazy, and he handled it fine."

Burke, 32, appeared in three games since being called up on May 2 and was hitless in one at-bat. The transient lifestyle between the Majors and minors is tough on Burke, and if he had his choice, a permanent spot on the roster would be his for the keeping.

But shuttling between the Knights and the White Sox is better than the alternative -- no interest from the organization at all.

"Yeah, it gets tough to go down, but I don't get disgusted," Burke said. "I feel comfortable with this team and I want to be on this team, which becomes the toughest part.

"I love the situation I'm in. I have no remorse about it, and I don't feel mad at anyone. That's the way it goes. I don't care if I go down for two days and come back up for three days and then go down for another two."

IMO Miguel should have done Game 1 and Sandy Game 2. It's much wiser to give the rookie the vet catcher who knows how to calm him down well in case of trouble. I think they used Sandy for Cotts last year. In any case, the 5th inning damage could have been minimalized a bit if Sandy had been catching. Maybe not, who knows. I just like to see the experiance out there with the rookie.

I think having Diaz start off with Olivo is a good decision. If Diaz is going to be in a comfort zone with a catcher, I'd rather it be Olivo than Sandy. Olivo is stepping into that role as our everyday catcher more and more. No need to set the process back by having Sandy become Diaz's designated catcher.
