Now that's the way to do it!!!

I don't like how people assume that White Sox players are trying to hit home runs when they don't score, and aren't trying to hit home runs when they do score. How does anyone really know? Then don't. The Sox mashed quite a few extra base hits, so what's to say they weren't swinging for the fences today?

because all they were trying to do prior to this game was pull the ball and it is usually a good sign that when u are trying to pull the ball ur swinging for the fences.

all you have to do is look at their swing. You can see when a player is trying to kill the ball, and when he's just trying to put the ball in play.

It's easy. If you understand the nuances of hitting in general, and are familiar with Sox hitters' peculiarities and track history, you could sometimes even tell as soon as the balll is released if it's going to be hit, how and where.

[/slight exaggeration]

I don't need to know what's going on in the hitters' minds to know that judging by their approach and results, the last few years, they were selfish, stupid chokers when it mattered the most.

And then you have games like today when everyone is relaxed (but in an intense way), is seeing the earlier and making real major league contact. Unfortunately, these games are few and far in between.

Should the Sox make the playoffs, they will have a completely different atmosphere to battle in. Road games. Better, more experienced offenses to go tit-for-tat with -- doing so against tougher pitchers, naturally. With the nation watching. They will probably fail miserably, but we shall see.

I went to both Saturday's & Sundays game and the difference between the two days was like night and day.

On Saturday everyone in the lineup was trying to kill the ball, you know, break some windows in the Robert Taylor Homes across the interstate.

On Sunday everybody, except for the Big Skirt who still doesn't get it, shortened their swings and started getting some base knocks & guess what? They got some pitches they could drive & the homeruns came for em.

These two days provided lessons in how to and how NOT to conduct an offense.
