Goldmember
To Elliott, it doesn't ring fair By David Haugh Tribune staff reporter June 15, 2004, 8:27 PM CDT When Bears wide receiver Jamin Elliott tells people he spent last season as a member of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, it has a nice ring to it. Now Elliott wants the jewelry to prove it, only the team says he won't get a ring. "I was there, said Elliott, who signed with the Bears in February. "I earned a ring. I was part of that team." Elliott played in one game for the Patriots and spent the bulk of the season on the practice squad. Elliott sent a letter to the Patriots and the NFL Players Association, and he said he plans to file a grievance. But an NFLPA spokesperson said Tuesday that the awarding of Super Bowl rings to players who were primarily practice-squad members was "the team's discretion."
