June 29, 200421 yr What's the average, or acceptable, commission for a realitor? Does 6% seem high? As a total that doesn't seem too high. Remember, chances are it will be split between a buyer and seller agent. You can negotiate it down if the listing agent is also the buyer's agent. Generally 4-5% is reasonable. You get what you pay for. Go over all the services the agent will perform. Advertising, marketing support, multi-listing, hours of service, any summer vacation plans, etc.
June 29, 200421 yr What's the average, or acceptable, commission for a realitor? Does 6% seem high? 6% is pretty average. You can find some as low as 3%, but 5-6% is about the norm. Most realtors will give a discount if the buyer and seller are using the same agent.
June 29, 200421 yr Steff 6% total is the avg. 3% to the selling agent and 3% to the buying agent. However, at least in my area a lot of people do 4% or 5% total. If its 4% then typically the listing agent will take 1.5% with the selling agnet getting 2.5%. I don't know though, it may be different in your neck of the woods. Agents don't have to do jack s*** out here to sell a house right now. Also if you end up buying a house from your listing agent, then you should get it done a lot less.
