DABearSoX
Model of consistency: Jon Garland has been arguably the White Sox's most reliable starter this season. In 15 of his 17 starts, he's gone at least six innings. Two bad starts -- 10 earned runs against the Phillies on June 9 and five earned runs against the Cubs on June 26 -- have kept his ERA from going below 4.00. maybe he is not as much as a head case then i thought..... YASNY
That Phillies game was one of those "he took one for the team" situations. You take him out after 5 runs or so, as would happen most of the time, his ERA would be a bit more respectable.
DBAHO
This on Garland too from the Daily Southtown, Judging Jon Speaking of starting pitching, with Mark Buehrle, Freddy Garcia and two-time American League All-Star Esteban Loaiza, the Sox's rotation is one of the strongest in baseball. But as Guillen sees it, if the Sox are to win the AL Central, they'll need to continue to receive quality starts not only from the aforementioned trio, but from Jon Garland. Garland is 7-5 with a 4.41 ERA in 17 appearances this season. In 114 1/3 innings pitched, the 24-year-old right-hander has struck out 56, walked 39 and allowed 110 hits. Opponents are batting .255 against Garland. "He's ready to be a real major league pitcher," Guillen said. "This kid has great, great stuff. But it's up to him to take advantage of what he has and take it to the next level."
