July 27, 200421 yr Its from the Newark Star Ledger, and that's been about as accurate as the National Enquirer, but one of the Big Units agents supposedly demanded a trade to the Yankees and made veiled threats that Johnson would cause a lot of problems if the D-Backs don't honor the request. If this is true, Johnson, who won a World Series with Arizona, and seemingly has had no problems collecting a huge paycheck from them, (even last season when he was injured and horrible) is a spoiled brat. His agent Barry Meisser or whatever his name is, should be decertified if he made that threat. I guess $16-17 million a year doesn't buy gratitude or loyalty these days. Johnson is a world class jerk.
July 27, 200421 yr I doubt it's true. I don't see Johnson as being like that. And, what's Johnson gonna do to "cause problems" anyway? It's not like they're in a pennant race and his actions would disrupt team chemistry.
July 27, 200421 yr Johnson has always been a quiet guy. I'm going to go out and say this is just pure speculation and bs from the papers.
July 27, 200421 yr Im going to say this is completely a rumor. Now had it been phrased, RJ has told AZ that he is demanding to be traded. But there is no way he is demanding to be traded to only 1 team, seeing as it puts the Diamondbacks in the drivers seat. They now can threaten that, unless you accept a trade to another team, you remain a Diamondback, or retire. I just doubt an agent would want to risk one of his biggest clients retiring when hes still set to make over $10 mil. SB
July 27, 200421 yr Its on sportingnews.com I saw it, and I still don't buy it. RJ has said that the only way he'll waive his no-trade clause is if he goes to a winning team and it helps the DBacks as well. Demanding a trade to one team gives all the power in the deal to that one team and Arizona basically just has to accept that trade. Pure BS if you ask me.
July 28, 200421 yr Randy Johnson has never done anything in the past that would lead you to believe he'd ever say or threaten anything along these lines. I'd lean toward Johnson's 15 year history (roughly) of be a professional over the words of some unknown reporter.
July 28, 200421 yr Author Randy Johnson has never done anything in the past that would lead you to believe he'd ever say or threaten anything along these lines. I'd lean toward Johnson's 15 year history (roughly) of be a professional over the words of some unknown reporter. ESPN is reporting it is the Yankees or nobody. Johnson is known as being a prick btw.He started fighting teammates in Seattle when he wanted to be traded. He had an altercation with Luis Gonzalez, who is known as one of, if not the nicest guys in professional sports. It would dissapoint me greatly if he demanded to be traded to one particular team. If he says he will only approve a trade to one team , that's another story. He has a no trade clause, so that would be his right.
